Default Air Filter Box Cover + POD

    Hey guys

Firstly i know there is a lot of threads on here related to pods and CAI but couldnt find exactly what i was looking for

I am probably going to follow coastvls guide on CAI for my vl however the noob who had my car before me removed the top half of the air filter box and whacked a pod filter in.

My question is.... where can i buy just the top half of the air filter box and also will it fit the pod filter in ok.

Also my knowledge from reading other posts makes me think that a pod filter and a cold air intake might suck too much air and as a result will choke the engine and/or cause the car to use more fuel.

I know that if this is the case i should buy a K&N panel filter, but dont have heaps of cash at the moment so will a pod filter (providing it fits) be fine for the short term....or as long as possible??

    Thanks heaps

P.S. Car is on gas if this makes a difference at all?? :S

Mate best bet is to save for a k&n panel filter, if u already have a pod try an see if it fits right but make sure its only for a short time an get a panel filter asap.

thanks i thought that might be the case.

i would obviously still need to get the top half of it wouldnt i?

more air the better bud. your ecu and afm will work together to compensate for air flow(Think of a turbo airflow) it wont choke the engine run a heap better.
i would suggest as above stated to get a K&N Panel filter and service it regulary as in clean and reoil filter.(depending where u live.... dusty terrains etc)...

i have a thread on here a few years back about my CAI install jobby with pics.

if u dont have the top half of the airbox you will need it as the AFM bolts to it. unless you do have the pod. my opinion Pods suck warm air from engine bay so i would recommend doing the CAI as well.

some states allow pods only if they are boxed. check SA laws

    thanks nath

I went to u-pull-it and grabbed the top half of the airbox today for $8 ....bargain... another wreckers wanted $25

Had a bit of trouble putting it in though, as the intake piping was too long. So just used a couple of zip ties to keep the flexible tube shortened while i fitted it to the afm.

All i have to do now is buy the filter and start the mod.

I will most likely buy a cheap filter to start with as i just put my car on gas and it has been backfiring causing the pod filter and the air intake tubing to come apart due to the pressure.
I replaced the leads and it hasnt backfired since but id rather be careful and start of with a cheap filter rather than a K&N just incase it does backfire again and blows my filter to bits.
or will a K&N be fine? lol

watch the backfiring it can blow out the tiny hot wire in the AFM causing your AFM to shit itself.
Panel filter i would suggest k&N ive had mine for years and its been great.
dont overoil them and clean them regulary... better than that shitty cheap paper one.
have a look in some autobahns i have seen them in a display showing the airflow between the paper ones and a K&N with a ping pong ball in a tube shows u how far it moves up in the tube good comparison

hey no thanks guys i already have a filter. Thanks anyway though

I did the cold air intake through the guard and to the grill, following coastvls guide.
It seems to be running much better, however on gas the revs drop to 0 after accelarating, although it doesnt stall.
Im guessing that its just the mixtures for the gas need to be retuned as more air is coming in... so i will hopefully get that done in next few days.
Does anyone have any ideas on what else it could be though??
I thought if i disconnected to battery to reset everything it would be ok but never helped.
    Runs awesome on petrol though
    Thanks
