    Default Accelerator Lag

    Hey Guys

When slightly accelerating from rest my revs drop to about 400ish rpms and car struggles a bit to get going but if i put my foot down any more it takes of as normal. The only way i know how to describe it is a lag before it gets going, but only happens when slightly accelerating!

I recently had the car put on gas... could this be a problem? However it happens when running on both petrol and gas. I also recently replaced all plugs and leads so it cant be that.

I also have a pod filter sucking hot air in from the engine (not my work) and im in the middle of changing it to a panel filter with cai. Hopefully it runs better after i do this.

    or

Could it have anything to do with my accelerator cable or something else? I really have no idea??

    Any help would be great

Just a wild guess but, is you transmission in good shape. Also sounds like it's not supplying enough fuel when you accelerate slowly. I'd check your fuel pump. Can't comment on gas though.

your pod wont make that lag happen, the hot air will only make u use more fuel and have less power

transmission is in good shape as far as i know, is there any way to check??

i know my fuel pump isnt the greatest but because it happens on gas as well i dont think its that.

so nothing to do with cable?? how about injectors?

    thanks for replies btw

well if its on both fuels i doubt it would be injectors or pump as gas wouldnt suffer
the accelrator cable wont effect the cars running
all it does is alow more air in the engine and the car add fuel amounts to suit

    do some basic stuff first
take the dissy cap off and check all points are clean and dry
if need be lightly sand them all till there clean same with the rotary arm

check you plugs, make sure there not old and completly covered in carbon or oil

if you can spare a 20 bucks go out and buy a new bosch dissy cap and rotary arm
should be around that cost if a recall
piece of mind being that they will be new and perfect

ignition - CAS, dissy, leads and plugs
would be one of the biggest points in getting a vl to run its best and most efficent
a little dollar on new parts here and making sure its pefect will make the tank go that bit further and the car run that bit smoother

ive got a k&N panel filter layed on my water heater under the carport collecting dust
was in my vl before i took it off the road
if your intrested and want it we could work something out

    Thanks

I'll probably replace the dissy tomorrow, but was is the rotary arm? and is CAS crank angle sensor? Im pretty new to cars but am enjoying learning how everything works

Dont think im going to go with K&N filter as from reading the posts it seems that normal filters do just as good if not better (plus cant afford it lol).

    Thanks anyway

dont pull the whole dissy out as you will cause your self some probs trying to set it back up
only take the cap off which is two philps head screws

the rotary arm is inside under the dissy cap, spins around and is bolted onto the centre shaft
held on by one 8mm bolt on its side
yer CAS is crank angle sensor

make sure you get the right leads on the right spot too
swap one at a time. might sound stupid but ive done it before lol

    good luck

yeh i almost stuffed that up when i replaced the leads lol,
accidentally put one of the longer leads on the closer plugs and then when i had to switch em couldnt remember which one werent where, but got it in the end.
so is the rotary arm the thing that spins and connects with the leads in the right order so the cyclinders fire at the correct time?

i had same problem basically slight lag.
i cleaned throttle body(Make sure u clean out tiny hole infront of throttle butterfly as this is your idle air when throttle is closed) and intake plenum...aac Valve.
plugs were good and leads were good, light sand of dizzy cup terminals and rotor as stated above.

leads are easy. on dizzy cup its got it numbered. cylinder one is at front of car and counts up as they head towards the firewall.
