auto ecu will run it exactly the same

go to a wreckers and pull one out yourself, you might get a dud but the chances are you will pay a lot less if you go to the right place.

just a guess but I don't think POVRTY will have a use for a DUD ecu no matter how much it costs I suspect he already has one of them.

True but if he doesn't know how to check the pinouts with a mulitmeter then he could save some $$$ by picking up a second hand ECU and using it to diagnose whether or not the ECU is actually his problem.
