Help wanted vl

Hey
am considering buying this vl and would like to know what some of you 'more expirenced' guys think
it is an 88 exec 5 spd manual non turbo
he has spent rufly 4k just on the basic; 2.5 exhaust all the way through , pacemakers, new leads and plugs , new belts, pedders sports ryder suspension througout, new heavy duty clutch, 2 new fuel pumps and other sh1t i cant remember off the top of my head, also has 17" vr clubbys with good tyres

the bad
needs a new gearbox and got a quote for 725 thats for the box and fitted wich fairly cheap
thats the only realy big issue except for a small bit of rust next to the back window but he said he can get RWC so no dramas there
paint is ok and they interior is in good condition
hes asking about 2500
this will be my first cay if i buy it i just dont want to buy a car thats going to burn a whole in my pocket

seems a bit steep unless is pretty dam tidy..

check the front widow for rust aswell it can get real bad under the seal where you cant see

do you know whats wrong with the current g/box?

you can normally pick up second hand boxs for a couple hundred and have them swapped over in a few hours easy job

the vls are a good car.. pretty indestructible aswell

Ok i be more inclined to buy a vl turbs of ebey instead of paying 2500 for the car and another 725 for gearbox

why dont you put that 725 on top of the 2500 and buy a decent one with nothing or minimal work to do to it

have been looking for 7 months and have found sh1tter vl's , the gearbox is pretty much cactus no 5th gear and no reverse anymore, also sounds like a bearing has gone too cus there is a whirling noise comming from the gearbox and when you put the clutch in it stops
its 450 for the gearbox and 275 to get it fitted , if anyone knows of a someone or a place in the ACT that can do it or get a box cheeper is good
the thing with those cars on ebay is there all not in canberra
what i realy want is a vr/vs but very hard to find manual and under 3500 only ever seen one vr manual good price went to give him a deposit and he sold it before i got there
will have a look at the window seal no other rust even in boot well exept for one small hole next to the back window but he said he'd get a rwc no worries.
if i go ahead ill offer him 2 and see what he says

i hve bought the car for 2100 gearbox going in on monday
cenral locking this weekend. new plastics when i can be F***** to go to the wreckers and just buffing up the paint for now

i think the first one ( orange one ) looks half assed and dodgy, i would go for the second one ( blue one ) it looks and seems to be looked after a hell of alot more, ever tho it doesnt have a bodykit but thats nothing
