Have you undone the lower ball joint and separated it from the bottom of the strut? You will need to undo the brake caliper and the tie rod end as well. The whole strut assembly has to come out of the car.

you should put the the strut top back in and put the three nuts back on so it is hanging then hit the sides of the ball joint mount until it pops,
don't undo that top nut until you have compressed the spring or you will do your self an injury.

pretty sure that nut with the pin through it is a castellated lock nut on your steering arm.

No, it would be the ball joint.

When popping the balljoint out from the strut assembly (which is wat would be holding it in), I normally undo the nut enuf so when I bash the top it doesn't bur anything over. I also jack the brake rotor up to put more pressure on it releasing. Slog it a few times and normally they pop out.

I bought some proper ball join splitter tools.....but they were useless. I've gone back to using a big hammer.
