Hey
yet again i have found something to ask on this forum lol
when going over bumps the back left suspension makes a clunking noise, at first i thought it was the spare tyre/ jack but wasnt. got under the car and nothing i could see or feel was loose, i shook the back and couldnt get a noise, did the same for the wheel, nothing.. this happened before not to me but and it was the top bolt of the shock but both shock and spring are firm in place????
any ideas. one day it just happened so not sure.. maybe those little rubber things that the exhaust hangs off whatever there called i forget
cheers

trailing arm bushes or panhard rod ? you might have to jack the wheel off the ground and the [safely] get under there and shake everything.
also check the rear muffler is not banging on the side of the fuel tank when you hit bumps.
Nobody wants to play with me
check for worn shock absorber rubbers, top is examined from top of floor
undo shocker at bottom and try to pump up and down it may be worn out
bottoming out?? or could be the exhaust hitting the diff??
if its like my car its the exhaust clucking against the car (not the speed bump) it happens only somtimes
okay cheers for reply. got unde car and shook the absolute eff out of everything. could do it then i shook the exhaust no noise but it was hitting but was only a very soft noise. and no its not bottoming out and just had all new suspension put in professionally and not the shocks or anything. will put it on ramps tommorow and see if i can see anything
cheers

does it always happen??.. maybe it was a one off thing... u hit a bump and ur exhasut hit the floor etc.
tryed going slower???
sounds to me its exhaust rubbers..
mine was having a clunking sound as well i found it was my muffler hitting the wheel well. and the exhaust was also hitting the panhard rod. replaced rubbers and wrapped a thick piece of rubber around the rod to stop it hitting steel on steel. all good now cant hear it.
yeh got the car on ramps today and i managed to get a clunking noise out of the exhaust.. from the tip hitting and no its not a cannon :P is a bit embarrasing tho and it is constant every slight bump/gutter so ill just replace the rubbers and put something like a rubber strip so when it hits if it does it wont be noisy
cheers guys
anyone got a suggestion of what to put on the exhaust like can i just go to bunnings and get a strip of some sort and stick it there
cheers
old coolant hose or something cut one side open and slip it over it
do you have the small rubber block that sits between the two hooks where the two rubber hangers loop over, they sometimes just fall off and cause extra movement.
if so then some heat resistant rubber will be the best bet as above have mentioned.
Nobody wants to play with me
mmm i think that would be the case becuase all of a sudden it just started to happen lol
ill have a look and get some heat proof rubber or even go to the wreckers if im desperate and rip one off
cheers. once again problem solved (Y)
okay.. title is a bit misleading, my 3" tip is hitting on the back bumper/body and makes the clunk sound.. was thinking of geting a dump pipe instead of those oval commodore ones that i have on now. would this make it quiter though. and any of you guys reckon it would look better or worse then it is now with the 3'' oval tip
and for temporary i will put the heater hose that is currently split but still onand cut that up. Cheers nath for that idea man.. and that little rubber stop thingy is still actualy on there
cheers
if tip is hitting bumper as stated. either lower your exhaust slightly(using different size figure 8 rubbers) or bend your exhaust. even cut the tip off and have 2.5 coming out so its clear.
yeh like i said ill probably lose the oval tipe. replace the rubbers and maybe put on a dump pipe tip
what do you reckon that would look like..
cheers for your help though. much appreciated![]()
yeh them rubbers where F***** in the arse.. second hand ones went on and no more clunking, funny becuase i thought it would be lose shock or something.. and overlooked the exhaust .. owell hopefully this thread helps someone with the same problem
cheers
