will i be able to use the brakes from the vs in the vl? just for some added stopping power

you will need to use the brakes from a vs or better to pass engineering.
Vt brakes fit
can use vn-vs v8 brakes on front, same as VLT fronts
289mm think the disc are, single piston caliper
or look into vt set up, which use hub adaptors
298mm disc and twin spot calipers
but once you do the vt set up you can go even bigger by getting the caliper mounting brakets
which allow 330mm disc or even bigger with possible 4spot hsv calipers
but make sure if you upgrade you do the master cylinder and brake booster too help make the set up work to its best
