everyone does the same mods because theres only so much you can do cheaply and effectively

ultimately turbo is your best option for power

a good cai makes alot of difference theres a how to thread here somewhere

also bring your exahaust back to 2.25".. the 2.5 tends to make them slightly sluggish

a home job on the cat to "hiflow" it makes i big difference rev wise aswell

advance the timing up to around 19degrees or untill it wants to ping and bring it back a degree

yeh i was defiantly thinking an xf throttle botty and some sort of CAI wether it be Pod or panel with cold air piping.
by saying not what everyone else had im not sure what i ment :P. i think i ment like the VY ss wheels ( i think there vy?) and neons haha. and also the fact that if you own a vl you get labeled as a bogan/hoon/ poor aussie prick only becuase a minority deciede to thrash teh shit out of them stick it on youtube, put steelies on the back and "chromies" on the front and the obvious one; cutting springs haha
but yeh it is a first car and i do want some power out of it so like i said i will probably get a cam, xf throttle body CAI of somesort and maybe advance timing. is that pretty much all you can do without turbo/supercharging
thanks for the ideas though guys

My old vl was just extractors, no cat an 2.25 single system with one muffler, cai pipe into stock airbox and filter, 19degrees advanced and i tuned the mixtures best i could

even with a sad clutch it was pretty quick for what it was,, not much problem taking ecotecs at low speeds etc

they rev and rev and rev and just keep going
now most people say its stupid to do, but you can get 70outa first, 125 from 2nd with no problems when youve got a good flowing exhaust and high timing

the VL is now a cult car for young men to modify but really they are now all about 20 years old and coming to the end of their intended lives, they dont need extra mechanical strain from mods
its not unusual to spend up to $20 000 on mods and you will be lucky to get half back when you become tired of it and want to sell
the 6cyl versions accelerate well and will do 200kph, surely this should be enough for an inexperienced young driver

i may be less expirenced then some other drivers or most other drivers. and i think there are some pretty good VL's getting about these days, sure there are the shit ones that have been thrashed but and are unroadworthy but i think it's fair to say Vls still have some life left espically if they are taken care of, sure things will go wrong. things go wrong with any car when they start to age.
also i think 20 grand is a bit much atm. just basic mods will do for now. maybe turbo later , new paint etc.
This is what annoys me when people have a go at VL's in general becuase of the minority that drive like wankers and mod there car like wankers. ie cutting springs, cutting exhuasts and sh*t.
    Anyone agree?
You wouldn't be one of those blokes that go slow in single lane traffic and speeds up at overtaking lanes would you

i have a auto vl with a full 2.5 inch system and i got upto 80kph (the speed limit in the area at the time) in 1st gear but it felt like there was less power from about 70kph

vls lack in the top end, have a better mid range from what i recall
if you cant get it launching well the majority of v6s upto ecotec will struggle

fix your exhaust size wise and it will more unbelievable
amazing how sluggish a 2.5 system can make a vl let alone a 3"

    to the OP
if you are going the aftermarkt cam i would strongly surgest a computer and tune
the factory comp can only go so far

few people on CT have made 140rwkw in NA form with cams and comps

i got xf throlle body, panel filter , extractors , no cat, 2.25 exhaust with one muffler, did 98rwkw with no oild pressure and cracked head. since put new motor in with the same mods. Isn't really a screamer up top end , but pulls down low and awsome torque through midrange too. If want high rever buy a jappa. Its a factory 5spd and gets through the gears no probs.
