Hey guys, when I get back from the states in December (yeah I know, I haven't left yet) I'm planning on building a VL Calais....Here are my current thoughts just after some ideas. I have a few thoughts and just wonder you guys will think is best.
Gloss Black VL - Most likely sedan but am considering a wag with Calais Headlights
6pot turbo or the 8? I figure the fuel economy is out the window on both
I'm thinking making it sit pretty low on a set of 18's Not sure what colour though...I don't want the standard silver or chrome. I was thinking Black or gold. Any ideas?
Dark tint on windows and headlights (legalities?)
Basically the effect that I'm after is a jet black "stealth" effect.
If I go for the 6, do I use a 25 or a 30?
Does anyone know of a 6speed manual to suit these things?
Leather interior (DARK grey)
Black carpet on roof as well
Now here is the thing...I want to run a bodykit on it but I dont want the Walky on anything else like that. Does anyone know of a mob that do a fairly wild bodykit to suit? Something almost rice.... Embarassed
As you can see, my thoughts are pretty scatterbrained at the moment and this is still very much in the "what about?" stage, but advice, suggestions and the like would be greatly appreciated.
To be honest, I ahve some pretty wild plans for this thing. I'm keeping it all under my hat at the moment, will fill you all in soon. Just let me go to the states and back first![]()
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
im picturing the wagon mate. sedans look crap black. my little 'Xplod' picture there is of 35%tint - darkest legal to give you some idea. dark interior will make it look darker as well. have not seen a 6 on these things and unless you wanna wait and do 2 injected V8 conversions together when you come back id be inclined to boost the 30.
ill put up a few links when i can find them again or some kits ive looked at before. i havnt seen anything too 'rice' but certainly some things i can picture on a nice dark wagon. i really get horned up over the thought of some brushed gold or smokey gold rims on a low dark wagon... looking forward to it!
vlv8vic....as you know, I'm a installer and damn cluey one at that....gonna shoot you a PM and fill you in on my plans....This thing is intended to be a showstopper.

cheers will have a read later tonight nad find some sites for you. til then gotta cook tea. olds are coming over![]()
i saw a link the other day in another post with a 25head on a 30 block boosted and apparently it goes. The guy displayed the whole mod.

Premium unleaded - 17 Psi boost
467 Hp @ 6000 rpm
456 ft/lb @ 4500 rpm
If you want more inches, STROKE IT!
467hp?! I'm not sure I want that much....lol But thanks, I will check out the thread.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
Gold mags would look good with the black, but depends on how stealthy you want the car to be...are you going to be using it to outrun the cops in the backstreet and turn off your lights to make them think omg where has it gone?
Gold will look great, black goes with the rest of the car.
I don't know about black looking shit on a sedan, but with the walky kit it does. Would a wing look shit on a sedan??? Sorry im just not a wagon fan.
Like alot of people, they want the wagon for a big ass stereo in the back, so it can be seen...y not gut the back seats out.
Tinted tailights! Not a fan of tho. It might be too black to look at from behind. But how black do you want this beast?
Yeah I've got nothing against black sedans. I'd hate to be getting into this car in the middle of summer aswell. You'd melt instantly.
This wont be a daily driver... SHOW car.....
I've been talking to a computer expert mate of mine...and he says my other ideas are very possible...lets just say for now...Knightrider
No out running the cops. Not needed.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
u definitely need to be different then dont you if its gonna be a show car.
That other engine i mentioned is just nuts but you prolly wouldnt need to go that nuts. 467HP, you'd need some serious engineering to stop everything falling off the back of the car and as if u wouldnt try to use it all!
If you want more inches, STROKE IT!
I'm kinda scared at the idea. A knightrider show car thats not going to get driven that often. Can I have some of this money that your wasting?
*sniff* i smell rice cooking here ......
scissor doors, undercar neons, useless gauges everywhere you look, checkerplate steel "lookalike" floormats, and 4" exhaust tip...
Oh dear s0sage....you do have the wrong idea don't you?
For you guys that ARE interested...heres a few more of the plans....
In Regards to my Knightrider comment....
For those of you who don't know. Knight rider was a show quite a few years ago starring the one and only David Hasselhoff lol and his car which was named Kitt.
Kitt had artificial intelligence and would speak to the hoff regarding different things...now for my plans
We will be using a computer to control all of the accessories...heater, sound, neons, ride height, headlights. Basically, the only thing the computer wont have control of is the Engine, brakes, transmission and steering.
There will be no extra guages. Infact, there will be no physical guages at all. We have devised a program that will give me a read out of..Speed, RPM, oil/water and engine temp, boost(if turbo'd) and a few other things. This will all be presented to me inside a custom dash that houses two 7" TFT screens..I know, we will have daylight visibility issues. But that is a minor detail that we will get around, besides with a completly dark interior and tinted windows I'm pretty sure we won't need to worry about it at all.
The computer will respond to many things via Voice Recognition software. To those of you who are wondering about PC Crashes...don't worry, we wont be using windowsLOL. All up we are figuring the PC will set me back around 5-6K my friend who is developing the software will get as much as he can for cost price.
We envisage a 2 year build time with a budget of around 20-25K all up on the road.
Here is how the computer will work...
*Driver gives a voice command and is detected by the computer
*Computer interprets voice command and matches it to a specific operation.
*Computer then plays a recorded message regarding the status of the operation (Voice kindly lent by my partner who has this HOT American accent, for added effect)
i.e. "Sorry, unable to perform requested operation due to vehicle in motion" or perhaps something with a little more personality "Sorry, I can't do that, we are moving at the moment"
"Request performed"
"Night mode enabled"
*Whilst the computer is playing back the message, it will also be sending a signal via an interface unit that gives a 12Volt trigger to a relay(s)
Go on, say I'm crazy. But I KNOW we cando this. We have already had the software up and running switching relays on and off whilst sitting on bench. We are having issues with the voice recognition side of things.
The current program is converting speech to text and then using that as a command. We are considering swapping to a program similar to that of a mobile phone, where it will compare my command to a pre-recorded command. Any other suggestions?
Thank god for supportive wives!!!!

Wow i love it, thinking outside the square, the gauges thing cracks me up but i love it.
If you want more inches, STROKE IT!
So....out of 10 on the "This guy is ****ing crazy he should be locked up for good" factor?

mate give the car a miss bye a house lol![]()
twincam 3L are so easy to get power out of, deffinatly worth doing if you chucking money at it

mate, sounds great, the computer system sounds awesome, id love to have the cash to do the exact same thing. im half way there, i have a carPC setup, but it dont control jack. anyway, goto www.mp3car.com have a browse thru their forum, sign up and they will help with heaps.
as for twin 7" screens, easy way to fix daytime problem, is to make them recessed, ie, most commodores have the guages recessed in the dash, do the same thing. vl dash has the guages a decent way into the dash.
Thanks for the vote of confidence, as you can imagine this will be a huge undertaking when we start the actual car itself in January.Originally Posted by hakhawk

Just got a quote on airbag suspension...VL $5200 no engineers certificate.
With engineers certificate...under $6000
Going to go for it without certifcate and get the car engineered at the end when it is complete....probably another couple of grand! lol....oh well, these things happen eh?
Had a thought on the front bar as well. I'm going to make a few calls and check out the pricing on getting a R34 NISMO front bar moulded on.
