the bearings are now being lubricated. One small part of the job of oil is to reduce sound. The theory behind hydrostatic bearnings is that the shaft floats between the bearing in the liquid, never contacting the bearings and when your oil gets old it basically loses viscocity and allows movement of only microns but hey, that will be enough.
What you cant see is the build up of deposits on the walls in the galleries and sludge in the bottom of the sump. It was my pleasure saving the sump scum and sludge to show customers when i did a rebuild on a motor (1 hyundai sonata lasted 45000k from brand new without first oil change and lost. We dropped the sump plug and found less than a litre of the finest honey a bee could make!)

hey thanks heaps for that... sounds like you know what your talking about![]()
lol got any more stories of stupid customers bucket?? i did six months as a mechanic and quit because i was sick of stupid people stuffing up there cars, plus the only shop that would take on a backyard mech with no paperwork was a bloody VW shop :b:

A guy drives in with his $67000 Grand cherokee which is really slugish and car is runing like a pork chop, its so bloody hot near the bonnet. Anyway when we could get near it, he'd dropped his bottom radiator hose(blew it off) and he noticed steam but didnt think of stopping cause it still ran so he drove for another 2 days -> rebuild and a new head @ $8000!!!
Another guy picks up his jeep wrangler friday arvo brand new and goes hooning. Mon morning we show up and here it is on a tow truck with the owner giving us all the dirty and shouting hes gonna sue everything that moves. It had 200km on the clock and we could smell brakes/clutch and it started but had no drive in the manual. I whipped it up on the hoist and the clutch powder was droppin on my head. As i pulled the box out i had sand dropping on my head but i noticed some stuck to the exhaust near the Cat and the pipe was blue from extreme heat.
The clown had to to Kurnell in Sydney which is a massive sand area 10-15km square right near where Capt Cook landed first in Botany bay and heaps of clowns go 4WDing. He had the tyres pumped to 41psi, a massive massive no no when 4wd and he eventually got bogged so he sat the dumping the living christ out of the clutch to get out. He blew the thing to smitherines, needed a new clutch and flywheel.
When i showed him the damage he did, i asked how much did he expect to get of chrysler when he sued, he just put his head down and walked away.

have got a better one, this VW shop i worked at briefly also did all euro cars, the head mechanic once told me about a customer they had who blew the head in his BMW something, anyway he had onother BMW but a slightly diff model (the customer this is) he took the head of that and it fitt, when he rottated the engine the valves where tapping so he then took all the cylinders out put them in his vice and grinded them down with his angle grinder to within 3mm of the rings. lol he brought the car in and said its stuffed you can have it, you can emagine how suprised the mech was when he took the head off lol.
the same mechanic also just bought a porsche 938 or something, 5L V8 goes like the clappers for $2500.00 this car had been past from owner to owner for rediculas amounts of money and aparently had a clutch prob, whenever someone priced the repairs they sold it. anyway my mechanic mate bought it and pulled the box of to get to the clutch (withc is some tripple plate twin flywheel thing) he started getting pricess for the new clutch plate and pressure plate when he saw what looked like a snapped bolt. he spoke to porsche and they told him it was a guide, turns out some fool had seen the guide and thought it was headless bolt or rod of thread, tried to undo it snapped it and ****ed the hole thing up, long story short and oxy and a few hours later the car was fixed and runs fine, paid $2500.00 can now sell for $15000.00

nah at least you asked for help, just remember yiur car will only last as long as you look after it! buy a gregory's book from supercheap or repco, it will show you how to service and maintain your car from home
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]My New Engine, A Work In Progress
I always get a book, even for my old Valiant which was a V8, the most basic car to work on but a book gives you everything you will need.
If you want more inches, STROKE IT!
yeah like how to change a tyre lol most of its just stuff you dont use, but things like fault codes and where clips are on the dash (so you dont go snapping) are usefull

to add the value oil has- girlfriends auto magna was stalling. nice car mechanically A1 but stalling. knowing very little amount magnas did a google to find out they stall if they are more than a few thou over service. wouldnt have beleived it when i read it til i changed the oil and filter (nothing else) and it runs like new. was only 5000 over service.
i will never ever underestimate what oil does for the engine!
ey guys i need to kno sum thing in the vl...does neone here kno how to change the spark plugs... dont look at me dumb i do kno how to but in the vl i just cant get the wrench down there its to wide...n im using an extention bar its the socket head tht is too big but its the rite siz for sparks i use it on the Telstar n the Magna
get a smaller socket. they are made specifically for sparkplugs. you wont get any old socket in there.
You'll have to get yourself a small spark plug socket from repco or something if you haven't already.
kool thanx guys
