Okay, i was just wondering if a few of you guys might have an idea about what might have caused this problem. Here's what happened :
I was cruising down the highway, and suddenly my car just died,it was literally just rolling along, luckily i was able to pull off the highway. I could not start the car
, however, after i got it towed back into town, several hours later, it started without a hassle.
However, i still notice that when i come to a stop, and am idling, the car's voltmeter ( i think thats what its called) jumps back and forth, and the rev's go up and down with it respectively. My mechanic said it is likely to be water on the computer, as there was water on the passenger side floor.
So, can anyone offer any suggestions as to fixing this from a DIY perspective, any comments/suggestions welcome.
Cheers, Snowy.
check the computer for fault codes first, make sure the CAS (crank angle sensor ) doesnt pop up and then go from there
the CAS normally causes the car to stop with out notice and or run crap and miss fire
if it wont start and you leave the car for a hour plus then will start it sounds too be the cas
could be water on the comp but more so i would say cas
do a check on the code and get back too us,
or take the dissy cap off and see if it has a orange dust through the inside, this would indercate the dissy bearing is stuffed and causing the dust to clog the cas

cheers, snowy.

Oh i forgot to mention that the dizzy cap screws onto the top of dizzy with 2 screws and the leads plug into it, under the cap you will find the rotor button and go further into the diizy and you will find the CAS (Crank Angle Sensor)
ahh thanks walky. very helpful !
i shal have a look tomorrow !
thanks heaps !
If it isnt that i would suggest that you check you ignition coil, when i bought my vl years ago we took it for a test run same soughta thing we were cruising along and it just died, they replaced that and it never skipped a beat afterwards.
see were the red plug on the lead is that is the coil!!!
any luck yet?im curious
yeah i waiting to here back
hey guys, sorry i havent been on, internet died ! stupid telstra..
anyway, i did open the dissy and had a look inside... nothing, all clean and in good condition. same for what i assumed was the CAS.
BUT, i have recently been driving every day, mimicking the conditions when it died on the highway, and nothing, its been fine ever since that one day.
but the weather had been fine, and sunny. but today ! haha it rained... i took her for a spin, and she surely did not like that ! when i came to give ways etc, the voltmeter jumped about and my revs were all whacked. lol. so anyway...i had a plastic bag inside where the computer is housed, when i took it out, the bag had water on it, so i am now waterproofing my windscreen and trying to find the leak !
thanks heaps walky for the tips, helped a lot![]()
no worries man hope you find that leak there a pain in the arse
