hey guys just wondering.. what fuel to use on the v8 vl?
cheers
I used Unleaded on my VK V8 (the 304 not the 308) WITHOUT the additive as recommended. Had it over a year and with regular services, never missed a beat.

Now adapted to unleaded fuel, this V8 5.0 litre was boasting both more power and torque than its predecessor, now at 122 kilowatts (164 hp) with 323 newton metres (238 ft·lbf). GM had fitted the V8 with larger valves carried over from the previous Group A engine
im asuming you have the 304 in the vl?if so i think they just run unleaded from what i can remember

maybe some one droped a 308 in it so who knows.but you should be fine to run unleaded i did in my old one
i think you will be right, a lot of that additive crap is BS anyway. Many still run cars on gas without putting the correct gear in, thats a lot more different to an octane difference.
On another topic, its great to see V8 VL, you get so used to seeing them with the T6's you forget they even came with the 8
the VL V8 acceleration times were no better than the 6, so the V8 was down on power
All VL's were designed to run on ULP. If you ran leaded or the additive chances are you stuffed the cat. Doubtful that you would have damaged the motor itself.
In stock form they were a slow thirsty slug. Convert it to a later EFI setup and they go great!

yeah my ex Gf's Brother brought a vl v8 calais and he was all like "haha your shitty 6 has got nothing" type deal...
so we had a drag and the ol' 6 smoked him..... haha it was funny as.... he cracked the shits big time.... no a happy fella at all..:P
spose it was one of those things.... where u had to be there :P
but obviously torque well he wins...
