gday,
im noticing the VL to be a bit of a thirsty car, ive filled her up and am only getting to about the 300km mark of a full tank if that and im not thrashing her. Is anyone else finding this a problem or getting the same distance?
cheers eddie
im in the same boat as you but im getting just over 200kms per tank so be happy to get 300kms and ive adjusted the sensors and replaced a few things and im still getting the same mileage and me and my mechanic are out of ideas
i used half a tank towing another car for around 250 k's
i think adding the pod filter into the car the computer is trying to pump more fuel into the tank maybey?
im going to get it checked out
there is no way im only getting that much out of it
Mine's a stock-standard car, no modifications apart from the suspension and I only get about 320k to a full tank.
probley running rich, need to tune the air flow meter..
could be the o2 sensor..
crap timing..
need to service something..

My car gets about 500ks from 60L in mixed driving, probably 450 city but a good 650 highway.
change at 1800rpm, I was changing at 3000 and getting 20L/100km![]()
I'm no expert but gone through the same thing as you blokes.
Most problems are caused by the crank angle sensor, the distributor, power transistor or the computer.
First thing to check is the high tension leads on the battery are fitting well, then check the rotor button and distributor cap are in good condition.
Grab a timing light and check the timing, it should be 15 degrees before top dead centre.
If you've got the timing ok but its still crook check further or get back to the forum so we can help.
Have you blokes washed the engine lately? if so, let us know because VL's don't like being washed.
Have you got a repair manual?
well shortly after i bought my car it needed a engine bay clean so i gave it a really good clean but i sprayed wd-40 on the bits i knew wont like the water
good tune and everything working properly im getting 450 approx city/highway driving..
but i dont pay for fuel haha boss does...:P
Water will still get in to the distributor and cause havoc. Sometimes its agood idea to take off the distributor cap, rotor button and the metal plate held on by 2 screws that covers the Crank Angle Sensor.
If there is any dust or crud on the stainless steel plate that spins between the crank angle sensor you'll probaly get a poor signal back to the ECCS. That could be the source of your fuel problems.
