Speedo Playing up....
My brother took my dash out and I had it painted (looks fab) but ever since he did it I am having trouble with my speedo. Last time I got a warrant the speedo reading (meter) was lower that the last one 6mths ago. But not only that my speedo now sticks and you have to tap the purspects to get it to work (but it does jump up on it's own accord eventually). Over the last couple of days there is a funny noise coming from the dash plate (speedo area) sounds like a bomb ticking LOL!!!! Also a mate was following me home last night and he called me and told me i was well over the speed limit. My speedo is reading 110kms and I was doing 140kms (OMFG). So he went in front of me and did 100kms and my speedo read 84kms at his 100kms. But when at 50kms it's reading about a couple of kms out. I do have 17" mags and thought this may effect it a bit but not that much. Do I need to replace my speedo or is there something i can check before spending the moola to have someone look at it. i had/have the same prob with my vl, when i stop and take off, the speedo doesnt work, then when i reach about 60kms, it jumps up. mine is out about 10 kms. its stopped playing up for now. but its so annoying! i didnt know what to do either :/ lol.
damn. I got that problem too! when I start her up and drive off nothing. Then when I hit 60ks it jumps. seems to sit at the right speed but it sucks guessing how fast youre going when youre under 60

sounds like the cluster was put back togthere either too tight or wrong...sounds like somethings holding thr needle back..

maybe the speedo cables not even plugged in correct...
My speedo doesn't have a clip (bro broke it - gotta love him AARRGGGHHH) can it be put on wrong and out of sink? Can you get new cables or do you have to get a complete new cable and speedo etc?

You rock, thanks I will try the wreckers, repco etc. But like i said earlier (when your a chick you get treated like you know nothing and they are F**CKIN rude to you).... I hate Repco near my parents house for this fact. I will try Supercheap or Butlers, maybe TradeMe. Oh it's great to be a chick that loves cars......

it's pretty much a propietary clip so you will most likely have to goto the wreckers. That clip is definetly the source of the problem. Inside the speedo cable is a steel wire rope that spins at a great of knots! Where it connects to the dashboard it has a little tiny gear on the end (actually, it's not a gear, it's a square! But we will work with gear) and it' jumping in and out of the locating hole in the rear of the dash because your bro didn't put the clip back in to hold it in place.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
