Hi everyone, just wondering, when my car is running, there is gridning throughout what i assume is the tailshaft or the gearbox... When i push the clutch in, it's less noticeable, but still shaky. When i let the clutch out, its very obvious. Any ideas?
Also, my brakes have started to squeal when i brake lightly, when i brake a little heavier ( not lock em up, but harder than usual) they dont squeal. Do they just need cleaning? Or replacement? I have VL turbo brakes, but my car is NA. Also if i want to go about cleaning them, how would i do that?
Thanks to anyone and everyone who replies.
Cheers, snowy.
supercheap or autobah sells a brake cleaner, check ur pads too they might be wearing out..
if its ur daily driver id check the pads first.. brake fluid levels and check for leaks..
sounds like your brake pads are worn down to the metal, happened in my vt once sounded like i was grinding gravel while i was driving lol and squealed when id brake. i'd get new brakes before you stuff the rotors
grinding could be your thrust bearing
when clutch in it stops normally
if slight noise still it might be the main shaft is bent
mine does it but hasnt cause any major probs as of yet, just enoughing![]()

Yeah its still slightly there when i have the clutch fully in, and more noticeable when i take my foot off the clutch.
Also, how do the brake cleaners work ? And If my pads were worn, Would i need to physically take the wheel off and inspect the brake pads? Or could i tell without removing them.
Cheers guys
grinding noise is probably your thrust bearing as vl berlina 5speed has said,
brake cleaner is a spray can you just spray it all over your calipers, pads and rotors then rinse off with water.
you will need to remove your wheels for a more accurate diagnosis of the condition of your pads and rotors a squealing sound is sometimes caused from worn pads, cheap nasty pads and from rotors being glazed over or unevenly worn this is caused from excessivly long braking and hard braking causing hot spots on your rotors.
this can be rectified by having you rotors lightly machined (scuffed) to remove the glazing and any grooves.

slight squealing noise, could be your screamer tab on your breaks indicating replacment of brakes
Some brake pads just seem to natuarally squeel. If your unsure of what to look for your better off taking it to a professional. The problem is the bonding material for the brakes which in normal city driving doesn't have time to heat up effectively.
