well im asking if anyone know if i was to change the rb30 on my car to a fuel injected 5.0L from a vn-vs would i need to take it through regency because my mechanic said i shouldnt as its from a commodore so it should need to be but i just want to be sure that he is right
wouldn't be worth it
you will need disc's all round and lots mods it wouldn't be viable
and yes regency will wanna look at it
Unless you fit a motor released in your model of car (a carby 304) then you need to have it engineered. You could just put the motor in, and say you bought a carby 5L from a wreckers (and supply the engine number) and if you get pulled over just say you put injected top end onto that motor.
This same rule applies even if you have a VN, and want to use a VP 5L engine (even tho the motor is identical in both cars)

best way is to go into rego office , say you have changed the motor, they will give you a form to fill out which they will send off to regency. you then pay for your rego and they will re register it as a 6 then within a week you should receive your new rego sticker and a bill for the difference between 6cyl and 8cyl difference in rego or if they think there's a problem im guessing an invitation to regency
your pretty lucky with a vl mate as they were the first to come out with unleaded and a lot also had disks all round like mine, good luck with it, its not as bad as what you think
I think you'll find you'd be in the shit if they knew it was an injected motor from a VN onwards. But hey, if you can get away with it, go for it. I hate giving them money for nothing as much as the next person.
