it might with low profile tyers.. my bros has 17 and theres space but its got new springs, the car hasnt been lowered.
tyers might scrub with a car full of people...
ive got 18x8 and king spring lows,
use to only scrap on occasion when cornering hard but now doesnt scraps with a adjustable panhard rod

iv got 17" vr clubbys on and have pedders sports ryder i think it is, its lowered a bit anyway and the front scrub when going over small bumps if the wheels are almost fuly turned one way or another and the rears hardly scrape but do sometimes
Iv got 17's with king spring super lows, monroe lowered shocks, adjkustable pan hard rod, and nolathane bushes,
it rides nice an only scrubs with a car load over bumps
Also an adjustable pan hard rod with nolathane bushes made a big difference with the scrubing issues I had.
Also my gaurds havnt been rolled yet either.
17's are a good size rim but u can fit 18's with out to many scubing issues with the right suspension setup
19's an 20's will take a bit more work to fit good with scrubing ect
Hope that helps
cheers jahan, i've decided to go with 18's, im not 100% sure if my car has been lowered... it sits pretty low atm, and i have 18s atm, and they dont scrub much... but might with a car load... the 18's im running at the moment aren't low profile either, so when i get my new rims, im getting low profile with them, which may help as well.
Cheers for the help guys.
its not the profile that matters so much its the width
235/40 should be fine in most cases but 245/35 have problems, more so on the front as they rub on the struts

i know this bloke who had 20's on his vl
I have 18x8 ve ss wheels on mine. rear seatbelt bolts srape inside edge at rear (easy fix) other than that no problems yet! http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/...es/smoking.gif
Correctlol
Adjustable panhard rods are roughly 150 an nothanlane bushes are about 50
When u lower a car it puts the diff off centre, so an adjustable pan hard pulls it back to centre once you have adjusted it, the bushes are the rubber bits on the pan hard rod you will see once you buy one, pretty simple to put on yourself aswell![]()
G'day guys, ive dug this thread out coz im much closer to buying my wheels now, and want to be sure that they will fit, I'm wondering will 18x8 fit my car, atm im running 235/45 R17 94V with what i think are 18's... i measured 18 inches rim diameter.. but hell i coulda got it wrong. Plus when i search for new tyres is only lets me look for tyres to suit 17 inch tires... so this makes me think they're 17's as well. Any help would be appreciated![]()
Cheers, snowy.
i had 235 45s on 18s used to scrub like anus. Front gaurds copped a beating. This was on my berlina and its lower then legal height.... check my thread to see how they used to sit... The rims are now on my fagwag and dont scrub at all... because its stock height.

Hey mate if the tyre's say r17 it means there 17inch rims
No worries mate. 235 is width 45 is height so the smaller height would be better
so im guessing when they talk about low profile, theyre talking about reducing that number, yep ? and also i found that that number is a percentage of the width of the tyre, not an actual measurement of the tyre height itself, is that right? If thats understandable . lol :P
To clear this mess up:
Your tyres are 235/45R17
235 = the tyre is 235mm wide
45 = the sidewall aspect ratio is 45% of the width (235) so it will be about 106mm
R = Radial
17 = 17" wheel diameter.
For later reference a 235/45R17 has an outer diameter of ~643mm
when you go to 18's you want to keep the same width so:
235
then because the wheel is bigger the aspect must be smaller
235/40
then, obviously you have 18" wheels so
235/40R18 will be the correct tyre size
the outer diameter of the 235/40R18 is ~645mm
So you are only going 2mm bigger in diameter, if it doesn't rub now it won't rub with 18's.
