VL Speedo not working

Hey I recently took my instrument cluster out to fix the odometer and now that ive put it back in the speedo dosn't work, everything else works fine but the speedo dosn't work at all now. Any ideas or anything to check? Any help would be much appreciated

And also is 10w-40 oil ok for a vl that's done about 100,000k's?

I just replaced the speedo cable and it still isn't working, where the cable connects up at the back of the cluster I can turn it and it moves the speedo to the relevant speed, so I'm guessing it's not the cluster.

Any ideas or anything to check? Help would be much appreciated.

can you turn the speedo cable.....
or does it get stopped as if its connected on the other end?

if free spinning go under the car to the drivers side of the gear box near the rear
it should screw into the gearbox,
undo and check if there are any teeth on the spade at the end also.

spin that and have a mate at the top to tell if it spins...... to rule out snapped cable

try that first to give you a heads up
