Looking at purchasing a VL
Specs:
Price: $2500
Series: Executive VL
Year: 1987
Rego: Until May 2010
Transmission: Auto
Odo: 179,XXX KMs
Fuel Type: Petrol
Looks pretty clean but haven't seen any engine bay pics as of yet..
Also a bit of a drive just to risk it being a shit house car..
Any experienced VL drivers want to lend an opinion?
..six views not one reply.
hmm
test drive it first and have it inspected if not happy. remember its a used car not a new car ???? only get what you pay for in the end .
Yeah true it's just for those kms i was expecting say around $4000?
Do you know roughly how much an inspection costs?
Are you a member of NRMA ? they can do inspections for members at good prices or speak with your local trusted mechanic to do the inspection , ask for a compression test to be done as not all inspection reports cover that .
check it out for rust spots and everything else on the vl's
make sure its all legit and do a rta check on the vehicle see if its not stolen etc etc
It's at a dealership if that clears anything?
And i'm not sure if i'm a member of the NRMA but i'm a member of "Free2go" which is run by NRMA which provides free roadside assistance for a year. Would that be sufficient in getting a discount?
doesnt mean that there is finance owning on it etc etc check it anyways mate better to be safe then sorry
If it's at a licensed motor dealer, it will be covered by the MTAA in NSW, or the equivalent in other states. There should be some form of signage around the premises indicating the dealer's status. If in doubt, ask before purchasing. This means that title is guaranteed and if it's not, you are covered by the insurance provided by the MTAA for full reimbursement if the car is found to be stolen or otherwise "illegitimate".
It's one advantage of purchasing a car from a licensed dealer.
I wouldn't pay $2500 for an Auto VL. It would have to be super mint, and even then max i would pay would be $2000. Theres just better options for the money (304 VNs)

Is there any way of negotiating with a dealer or is their price the set price?

Agreeing with Stocky (for once :P)
2k max. It's have to be pretty mint - paint and interior. Otherwise I wouldn't be looking twice.
You can pick up exec's and sl's for 1000-2000 if you keep an eye out. If it's just a first car I wouldn't worry about the paint, but if you buy a cheap car, instead of putting your cash into making it better, put your cash aside to buy something better down the track.
Offer him 1500 if you want.
Dealer cars are usually always dearer then Private sales as well, remember that.
