haha well i must be way off then... i saw a yellow VL (think was a BT1- not that that matters) it had a LS1 in it...
the bloke said, all up (including NEW engine and NEW box etc) was around $25,000.. fitted...
maybe im wrong... maybe the engine was worked as well or maybe i just plain right heard wrong... im sure greenfoam or sumone reputable will confirm this or watnot
i think if it were that cheap every wog and his dog would have done it by now..
bloke i work with is doing a conversion of a Ls1 Gen3 into a HZ for his mate..
it has costed about 20K so far
just for shortening the gearbox rods for manual gear shifter by 8 inches to fit around a bench seat it costed $4500
motor + box and all the other bits needed for the conversion add up real quick. check out calaisturbo.com there's heaps of threads and info on it over there
$4000 - $5000 would barely even get you the LS1 itself and the box. Then add loom and ECU, engine mounts, frame etc etc, plus a few mods to get things fitting and sitting right, would probably have to widen the trans tunnel a bit too wouldn't you?

Some people have the cash to throw around i guess. I personally wouldn't waste that kind of money on throwing an LS1 into a VL (or any early model Commodore). At the end of the day, others have already done it, so it's not really THAT unique, and if you don't internally mod the block, then all you have is something as quick as the car that the engine CAME out of, in an old Commodore.
For the price you spend on doing all that, you could buy a VY Clubby, or a VX Clubby and do some work to the engine.

All depends on what you are out to achieve really.

Well that's another thing, you would have to factor in all the engineering costs too. That shit can get a bit costly.

Will be cheaper than trying to do it yourself.
my mate has a vl with a gen3 in it. THE THING IS A MACHINE. cruising at 100kph and footing it the thing just spins. Its running around 290rwkw but im not sure how much it set him back. fair bit i presume![]()
hey guys, from all your helpful answers, iIve come to the conclusion of not doing this because it is way too pricey for my budget. i pretty much want my VL to beat the majority of skylines in my area haha any tips for that?
thanks again.
Bolt a turbo up to the side of the rb30?
