hello,
My vl berlina auto's transmission selector cable keeps disconnecting from the selector rod, I'm sure there's meant to be something that keeps it from coming off like a retainer but I dont know what it looks like, does anyone know what it looks like and has a pic or what is it similar too as I need to replace it? thanks in advance, dont want to be getting under and feeling to reconnect it especialy when going to or from work.
im assuming its under the car mate???
even if its in the car there should be a bolt that holds it on there i will see if i can draw a rough pic for you mate
Should look something like this mate hope it gives you an idea

Hello, thanks for replying, yes its under the car, the selector cable connects via the sleeve to the selector rod, awesome pic, basically I need to know what bolt it is so I can get another one, the sleeve isnt that big so I wasnt sure if it was a bolt or a clip that sits over the top, either way I need to get one to replace whatever was used ans is now gone.
yeah the rod should fit snug into the sleve i just did that for an eg:
Yeah im not sure what size bolt just get one that screws in you be right mate if ya got bolts lying around just find one until it fits!
if u cant find a bolt to fit... look and have a guess what size it is and go down to the hardware store and pick out a few, there cheap as chips...
i think from memory its like 14mm / 9/16 spanner
I had a chance to get under the car and have a good look, and after having looked at your replys I've realized that mine is the old cable driven selector and not the rod driven selector, the cable has a circular end on it that slides onto the small shaft("best description I could think of") at the end of the selector(attached to right side of trans under car), the shaft has a small ridge on it as if a circlip or something like a split pin would go on to keep the selecter cable from sliding off the small shaft, so if anyone has an auto with the old cable driven shift selector, they might be able to tell me what is ment to be thier, also thier was a rubber peice that appeared to cover whatever the clip that is used, but that rubber piece is stuffed and fell off.
i had one of these i just got my calais and i will see if its rod selector which i think it is so im not too sure mate
I think someone once said it was different between series 1 and series 2
yeah there is a rod selector and cable thats the difference between them
convert to the rod selector! the cable will continue to give you grief thats why it was changed at holdens it is a sh!t design.
a trip to the wreckers will do you good.
Nobody wants to play with me
