    Default Need help wiring tacho

    Hey all, im currently installing a basic tacho gauge into my VL (just until i can get hold of a calais dash) and i've worked out where all the wires go to except the green one which reads the RPM. does anyone know where this goes to?

    behind your cluster the plug that goes into it has a whole heap of wires i belive its the brown with a pink stripe or red stripe or something like that i cant remember exactly

    run it to the negative side of your coil this will then read the RPM.
    On the vn-vs the engine loom actually has a brown wire taped up on the passenger side that is a tacho output which you can run your green wire to. not sure if the VL's had this.

    there is a thread about this mate not that old so it should be on the first couple of pages...In matter of fact i just looked and it's on this page where this thread is


    OK.....On the back of the cluster there is a black plug...its the main plug for the cluster the wire that you want is

    in one of the corners there will be a RED with a Brown stripe wire that is your wire my friend

    if hes running a aftermarket tacho why not wire it direct to the coil? will save removing the dash and cutting in to the loom

    you just splice into it like i did save another wire all they way in the engine bay

    thats how i wired mine and all the wires you need are in that one plug except for the acc wire which i wired into where the stereo is

    its only one wire to the engine bay (green) Red to acc power and black to earth.. no need to remove the dash cluster this way lol

    Both ways will work.. each to there own tho.. what ever way you think is easier.

    cheers everyone just took the cluster out and connected it to the brown/red wire works all good now.

    Well i had to pull the cluster out anyways to fix a slight problem with the speedo so i just did it that way
