hey guys, as some know i picked up my vl today and really excited!
my friend who has a vl took out the airbox and runs the pob airfilter. is there anything to gain from this? im not sure exactly. he rekons its fantastic but i duno. and how much would it cost to change to pod if anything much?
thanks guys, sorry its a real noob question but previous to this i knew shit all about cars but im really enthusiastic after getting my VL today!
My brother has a pod on his, wouldn't have a clue about performance but it makes the hornist sucking noise!
if its for an n/a its useless better off getting a k&n panel filter and doing cold air induction.
if its for a turbo then get a pod filter.
EDIT: since your new to the vl scene make sure you check out www.calaisturbo.com.au , its another great site for vls.

just whack another snorkel on the front of the airbox.....
Nah that snorkels pretty tiny. Your best following coastvl's CAI article, he's a member on here aswel.. You can still leave the original snorkel there, but just bung up the end so it doesn't suck anymore. And then use the PVC tubing through the guard. Lots better than a pod without heat shielding.
I'd tend to agree with that. It also won't lead to trouble should you replace your AFM with an AMM. (air mass meter)

Half a carton and still going!!! Now thats Economy
I got a pod on mine, i noticed when i put my foot down my PWR lights sometimes comes on then turns of when i drop the revs or turn on the switch then off again. Dunno whether that means its sucking in too much air and thinks its in PWR mode or its just faulty.
But my power mode button still works...
hey whats better for a supercharged six a cold air intake or a pod air filter. dis is on a vs statesman
With a intercooler?
nah no cooler might get one in next couple months. so wat u reakon is better

You using the paxton bolt-on supercharger?
just as an update i chucked on a K&n air filter tonite. noticed a difference right away, seems smooter to drive, increased response. but see how it goes over the next few days
Has ne1 got a bodged up a box around a pod filter? Cuz i wanna do the CAI thing but i bought my car with a pod on it. And what's it like with passing roadworthy's with a hole in below the box?
i put a pod on my vl and to be honest i think it went better with the factory air box. sounds good though.
All you need to pass a roadworthy with a pod, is a box around the filter. it dosnt need to have a top or bottom.Originally Posted by Jules86

pods arnt illiegal, the copa told me that a boz isnt nesesory but will free up a few horses with the cooler air.
i just bought my vl last week and i noticed that some-one has cut another 6 holes all around the box. would that actually do anything or was the previous owner wasting his time?
what do ya mean, an extra 6 holes? drilled? it would free up a few horses.
Not that it would have taken the owner alot of time to drill out the extra 6 holes in the box...he would've done it to get a little bit more air flowing into the throttle body, i doubt it would've done much at all.Originally Posted by shiatan
it's 6 two inch holes all around it. there's more gaps than plastic left. doesn't sound any different than standard though. i think i'll just grab a stock one from the wreckers and attatch some pipe tho.
pod filters are illegal. laws state must have original air box. what you put on it is up to you. I chopped up an old box and screwed and glued plastic over the original hole on box then cut a hole through more central in the front (instead of to one side like standard) then screwed an adaptor plate from repco to it with rubbor adaptor from 3" to 2 1/2" and ran 2 1/2" tubing to the brake cooling port on my Grp A skirt. Significant difference. Auto gear change is 10km/h later. Pulls up hills in o/drive instead of dropping back a gear. With extractors and sports exhaust my n/a executive now pulls @200 - 220 km/h. Bumpy as hell ride though as the Grp A skirt pulls the car down to the road.
I beg the differ, i have never had a cop tell me off for my pod. Infact one of them gave me advice of fitting a box around it to get cooler air.Originally Posted by bangers
