starter motor/solanoid question
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
hey all i have finished putting my vl motor back together and am ready to fire it up.
i have this following question now.
on the solanoid the stud that the power wire gets screwed onto does that earth out or have a wire on the inside of it?cause i accidently screwed mine out about 3-4 mm im thinking it has lost its conection cause i cant get the car to turn over?i tapped the starter motor with a hammer whilst the key was held on it it started to turn then nothing when i stoped tapping.im assuming its the solanoid that i have ****ed when it unscrewed?maybe if i take starter motor out and hook it to a power supply and see if it turns over then go from there?
might be a good idea man
hook it up out of car with jumper leads and check if you are getting when touch one contact the gear shoots out to engage flywheel
and then youch the other contact and you should be turning the motor...
goodluck..
put another starter motor in stil nothing.im starting to get wild.what should i check?
funy thing is now when i turn the ign on no red lights come up on dash whats the go there?
i mite be missing something but was just funny how i tapped it yesterday and it started to turn
shit also where should i earth my motor out?i found the lead but couldnt remember where i took it of from got a funny fealing it came from over near power steering side
drivers side engine mount bolt into the block if i remember right thats probably why she would nt crank over too be trying to earth through anything it can other smaller wireing

yes the way i pulled it out of a running car was the way i put it back in
hows about your relays for ignition as you say u have no red lights.. (We now know that your fuses are good)
weird man u have shorted it somewhere and blown something...
Decent Earth point
12V lead to starter is good check with a meter to c if u r getting power to it.. as stated above make sure your on right spade connector..
im sure its nothing to major C pic for reference goodluck man
Keep us posted

bit of an up date.i had a think anout it when i tryed 2 starter motors and bridged the positive terminal and negative? on the solanoid it wasnt engaging.so i thought hang on the car still thinks its in gear.so there is a plug on top of solanoid with 3 or 4 wires that run to another plug with a loom that runs to trans i think the neutral switch well that plug was a little oily.i sprayed the plug with wd40 and she fired up nicely.
but i have a second problem now i was running the car yesterday and it was all good i put it away and started it this morning and it was fine but after it got hot and i went to re start it 30 mins later it sounded like battery was flat like gave half a turn and that was it[new battery] so i tryed my vp battery witch is new and still the same thing.i was stumped so i left the battery conected got the other battery with some jump leads i put the positive to the positive on solanoid and negative to body and hooked it up to the second battery and she fired up strate away.so i got to thinking after back tracking and looking in the boot where the battery is the earth is just to the wheel arch im 99% sure the earth should run back thru to the motor???????
what do use think i think this will fix it?
yeah that earth should be ok man or up to the seatbelt tensioner bolt thats where i got my earth for Amps.. it should be fine with earthing the engine out...
and make sure theres a good fat one from the body to the engine in the engine bay

yeah i got a thick one from block to eng mount
engine mount is on the k-frame witch is mounted on rubbers to the body and may not make very good contact through the bolts

Here man this is what i have done to make a decent earth to the block 8Gauge wire i think
man even use 4gauge thick
People dont understand how important the earth is just as important as the pos lead
goodluck man hope all work out
yeah same gauge wire as i am using now.i still mite run one from battery to eng aswell i wana nail this bastard lol
