I start believing you failed english. But aside from that, the VL loses out on power to weight ratio. Cantebury, in NZ I take it, so the whole damn place is flat. Find a hill to race him up and teach him the meaning of torque. Is your car an RB20 or RB30?

And remember it is a Jap engine, so if you lose it's the nips fault not Holdens

    bloody hilarious there JC.

Canterbury could be in sydney where hoodlems tend to live, ooops sorry i had to. (home of the NRL's only rapist team) damn my fingers just shake and type weird stuff.

Yer mate the 1.8 lancer is twin cam and although prob only 90kw @ motor, it will beat you hands down for suck squeeze bang blow because they can suck better with twin cams.

As i used to say to the belmore boys in my tech class who drove chook cookers (rotarys), lets chuck a boat behind each and ill race ya to the river and see who swims when we get there.

Yep, so if your in an RB20E then your only 5kW up, and a whole lot of weight too.

It's called the cruel remorseless advance of technology....

Nowadays even 1.6 and 1.8 liter cars have more go off the line that a six cylinder large car of twenty years ago and come embarrasingly close to V8's of the seventies...

Look at the new Alloytec 190...it's not that many years ago we were seeing SS Commodores proudly displaying "185-i" badges on the back...now an ordinary Commodore family pack with the optional 190 kw engine is putting out more power than Holdens prestige performance car of only 10 years ago...

Sad really, but as I said, technology marches on and no amount of nostalgia is going to slow down the little pocket rockets of today from shaming cars we used to revere as quick.

To true the old V8's just lack so much development (more power mmmmm make it bigger) when you compare a GM V8 to a Toyota V8 its pretty shamefull really. But hey there still loads of fun to go side ways in

I'm new - names vlrad - started a new thread - called fast idle - if someone with some tech knowledge can look at - it may help me get to work on time.

I want to keep the vl because I like the body and nissan motor. Prefer them to latter v models in the commodore range. So I am teaching myself how they work - the manual sucks as it says - step one replace component A and try - step 2 replace component B and try. Read lots of treads in the forum and some blokes say I replaced afm, coil and the list goes on. So if you can help me understand what effects things like o2 sensors have then I can keep my vl until I am 90.

I have thought about getting a second working car - changing the components over until I find the crook one and then selling the second car on.

Right now I am trying to find out if I can replace the seals on the injectors or I have to replace the whole item. - pls have a look at my email called fast idle and then I may be able to act like I am 17 again and give a few lancer boys an ego boost by pitting the old nostagic vl against new tech and thinner chasis. The new cars are lighter because steel costs money and crumple zones don't work with thicker gauge metal - which you may need if you are testing rockets on streets.

Check my signature.. kW sells cars, Torque moves them, even if these new V6s have the power number, they don't have the torque or the phat sound..

Agree with the Toyota engine thing, it's like comparing a 202 to a RB30

canterbury is in sydney and i think thats a sick place but still i wouldnt recommend you to live here...
iimmm thats right ,they both jap engine.but i believe there isnt another one that drives more crazy then i do, but still that looks like they got same power, because vl 85 kw on the whls, lancer is just same. but on the hill the torque on vl should be better so what i do is , race him on hill and tell u the result

Not even close, if you're talking about a Japanese Evo VIII.. AWD, Active Yaw Control.. Rally bred weapon it is, if you're talkin' 'bout standard run of the mill Aussie base model - maybe?

I agree with juzza, you can have same power on paper, but it's all about power delivery....compare an ecotec to a similar power turbo 4cyl....I know the weight of the cars etc has to be taken into consideration, but the power deliveries would be worlds apart....
