i was wondering if anyone has put a box in the boot of there car to enclose a subwoofer i am currently designing one to suit a pair of 12" pionner sub's and i was wondering if anyone has done this and whether they could post pictures of how they did it and a short description of the design involved
thanks dan
all subwoofers in boots should be in boxes!!!
basicaly use 19mm MDF, cut to make a box, plenty of glue to join the edges of the board then screws to hold it together. once its together cut the hole for the sub using the template which would have come with it, then plaster the inside edges with a good sellys type sealant (a flexible one).
you could investigate building it so the front has a bit of a lean on it - looks good, adn cover it in something nice!
as far as the wiring goes i suggest the actual sub box wiring points you can buy just about anyehere that sells car audio. usually just means making another small hole in teh box and gluing/screwing/sealing the item in place.
will try to post some pics tomorow on where myn sits in the boot
words of advise ppl, jb hi-fi and autobarn sell those terminal's for sub boxes for $15- ish.... dont get em from there, i later found them at dick smith electronics and another place on sydney rd coburg for $1.30- $3-... lucky i didnt have the money on me when i was at the other places!
i am not a forum junkie!
What's the difference between a ported and non-ported box...like sound wise...i never knew, i just ported mine for the hell of it in a 60x50x30 (roughish measurements) box. For one 12" sub.
ok this is sum thing ive taken alot of time 2 master. if u want gd room in ur boot still and awosme bass. i designed a box which is a snug fit under the parcell shelf leaving the rest of the boot free. aslo accomodated a large amp next 2 it which could b traded 4 another sub. i recently modified this box to a banpass to increase the bass.

Half a carton and still going!!! Now thats Economy
Mines a snug fit under the parcel shelf with the face of the box that extra height to sit on the bass of the boot, took a few good hours over a couple of days to do...such a nice fit it's not fasted there with any brackets and it never moves...it's ported on one side with the amp on the side but looking on changing that when i do it up. Which will now be awhile cuz all my saved money is going to fix my cracked head in the engine![]()
aghh welll i did it all myself with a single 12" sub and a large amp.
i got carpet from local place for something like $37 @ 2m x 1m i brought 2x2 for 80 and they gave me heaps of glu that is used through a aircompresser spray gun! i just painted it on though....
now i made the base. the side bit on the right(opposite to spare wheel) i made an extremly tight fit so it wouldnt need to be bolted.. but can be if i want it to... although jack and that sits behind it if i ever have to get to it!
the sub sits under the parcel shelf and has a box behind it which i then have one of those breathers going out where my arm rest folds down (i dunno if this is only a calais thing or not but i have it in my calais) then another breather type thing going up through the parcel shelf!
this sub wall is on hinges so that if i ever have to get behind there for any reason or want to put an extra sub in etc... or stash grog when i go to the lourne festival =)
also the wall the sits against the back it covers the back of the tail lights, it is also on hinges so i can change them if i ever have to! there is a small top on it that sits flush with the top bit against the back (soooo damn hard to explain) its kinda where the boot shuts, it looks like its gunna hit!
i just cut the carpet so that it would kind of sit around the tyre and put little silver buttons on it that button down onto the bottom and velcro on top.
red neons for finishing touch! only problem i had was the damn amp was tooooooo big to sit on the side panel its not currently in a permenant posi.... i will buy another one and then fix it up!
also.... at the top of the parts that are hinged insted of using a lock or anything there i screw them into a peice of wood behind. i cut a slit in the carpet and spread it and screwed it in the just folded it over... cant even see them!
my pic's can be viewed in the "vl pictures" thread i think its about page 11 or 12
=) hope yous enjoy! tell me what yous think!!
