what is ati module

hey just wondering if someone could tell me what the ati module i pulled out of my vl commodore is. i pulled out complete wiring harnesses to replace with another this module isnt on the harness i want to put in the car both harnesses came out of 6cyl manual.. is this module needed

I think you mean AT1. and in some models there is at2,
it is the auto trans control unit from behind the disused fuse box under the dash on the drivers side.
the manual car it came out of obviously started out as an auto.
