Default push brakes n no lights!

title says it all, any idea's?

the lights work with the headlights on, though pushing the brake doesnt make them brighter.

sounds a tad silly but have your checked they arent blown?? i know its odd but at an auto elec shop i use to work at we had an el fairmont come in with that problem.....we replaced the spring switch above the brake pedal and it still didnt work so we checked the globes only to find we had been a bunch of twits....may be the globes, may be the switch, could be neither but its just a couple of ideas

oh and when i said check the globes i know your tail lights are working but theres that one in a million chance that just the brake light element could have blown

Thats a Bad earth problem if globes are good.
check for corrosion in the plug terminal as well as the spade connecters crimped on to the wire in back of plug.
i had this for one side of my lights and it was the earth

All wrong. It'll be the switch on the brake pedal (chance of ALLLLLLL 4 blowing just one filament, not likely)

If you do a search for brake pedal switch, i'm sure the thread with pics of how to fix it will show up (might not be from a VL tho, but this is a common commodore problem)

stealthy he said it was not all filaments at all man just not lighting up.
i have had this prob and it was a bad earth and a common prob with the vk as well.
but like u said could be the switch.
    all is possible

Goon are the secondary filaments blown in the rear bolbs..

He said none get brighter. Meaning if it was the 'globes' it would be just one filament per bulb blown. Not likely

I had the same problem with my VL, no brakes lights, only 'driving/parkers' and it was the switch on the brake pedal

The switch IS the obvious problem. Have a think about it, the chances of ALL 4 shorting out on the same day, highly unlikely. 99 times out of 100 it will be the switch if that is the problem your having. If you still have one or more brake light working, then its not the switch, simple really

Aussie Macca mentioned it first btw, i just didn't see it in his post lol

Headlights on (driving lights) but no brakes = brake pedal switch.

    Double cheers

You know what a fuse is for right? it means theres a problem somewhere else. Simple replacing the fuse wont fix your problem. The most common reason for ALL the brake lights to stop working at once, is the brake pedal switch, as proven by the OP in this thread.

water in the tail lights caused a short and blew the fuse only noticed a few days later when I was told I had no brake lights funnily enough the tail lights worked just fine because they weren't on when the water was in the lights, when I checked for corrosion I noticed water marks so I sealed the lenses and changed the fuse. this I'm sure you would know is a common VL problem.
