    Default anti theft ideas wanted

the victorian police say the VL is the most popular older car for being stolen, the main demand being for parts for the wreckers, especially the body panels

apparently the steering lock is easy to overcome, despite the housing being upgraded to metal

anyone got some good antitheft ideas, I have a case hardened chain and padlock to the steering wheel and am advised that the wheel rim would be tempered and hard to cut thru with a hacksaw
I asked an autoelectrician about a secret switch to the fuel pump but he said a thief would find it and didnt have any other suggestions

keypad 3 point immobiliser, they might smash up your car so link that with an alarm.
set you back about $1000+ but well worth it

pager alarms are good. your auto elec should support ANY form of security. would-be theifs might find the switch (key switches are good) but the time it takes them to find it may be enough time for them to get pissed off enough to not take it. any extra time it takes them is a deterrant.

ive got shock sensors, 2 point immob, alarm and kill switch, plus door lock plates in teh doors so they cant be jumped.
ive no doubt its still easy to pinch, i just know it would take a little longer than a car with nothing therefore they might chose a different car to flog!!!

i removed the gas and left the switch in.......every night i unplug it and they can't start it.....i also got an alarm but that doesn't stop them from trying........all my locks are stuffed......try putting a switch into a major electrical component......they're not mechanics or auto elecs so anything harder than usual they won't bother with!!

My alarm arrived just yesterday. Well, friday. Viper pager alarm.

Thats going to be combined with shaved off door locks and plates welded over the top inside the doors.

Of course they can always take out the rear quarter or smash a window, but hopefully this will keep most at bay.

Well you can get a couple, one goes between the shifter and the handbrake, so you can't put it into gear. But the padlock basically goes between the T and the lever underneath.

This methods pretty dodgy though as its not too hard to get around it.

    Cool

also...like Spac said... itat works good...another 1 is to have, like 4 switches in a row....and you are the only one that knows which one goes which way to start it........( but you gotta make it hard to get to the wires behind, or it;s easy for them then)........

heres my trick its for a vn but i dont see why not a vl
because im too pov to go and buy a decent $1000 alarm every time my cars not garaged especially in a shonky part of town i pop my hood and remove the main computer fuse (in my vn these are a box shaped fuse that cost like $20 - $30 to buy, so i make sure i dont loose it 2)

so now unless they happen to have 1 of these expensive fuses handy my car aint going no where and thats the main thing i spose. id rather find it with my stezza ripped out and a bit of damage than not there at all.

ps. dont leave your locknut key in your car either

one last thing if i was to purchase an antitheft device it would definatley be a well placed gps tracker so i could find the ***** and get revenge

My mates got a VN and his old man is a mechanic so he made a kill switch from the hazard lights button, in other words to start the car you have to hold the hazard light button. this is very effective his car has never been pinched

Until now when car thiefs read this and if the car won't start they hold down the hazard button.....

ive seen a button on an auto VL between the little fluffy flaps that the auto shifter shifts through. you will never see it! and if you have fat fingers youll never get to it either...

i just have the stock alarm....
hope no theif gets on this site!! AGH

ummm.... gprs would be a charm if you had the dolla's...

    from what i understand!!

the bigger the lock the better!!

you have wheel braces and huge steering wheel lock...
they see it and are like... bugger it!

if you got a switch to stop them taking your car.. then they steal your sound system....

but then i spose sound system isnt as bad as the lot...

I Just checked out a place today actually that stock “Rhino” systems. There is one that has a two stage shut-down system that will kill your fuel pump and something else… it also has a pager up to 1.5 kilometers range and a SMS is sent to your mobile phone. If your first two kill switches are bypassed you then have a satellite navigation that will show you were the car is and can be stopped anytime via “Rhino back to base monitoring” and the cops will be alerted.

If you want to spend 2 grand on a system, then by all means this is the best one. I look at it this way, if you spend 20+K on hotting your car up, what’s 2 more grand going to hurt?

Note: It has sensors up the wahzoo that will detect anything from a minor bump (trying to open the door via the door handles) to a window break. It has a double alert setting that will allow you to have just the pager and SMS go off for little minor bumps and then have the pager, SMS, and GPRS monitoring if the car is actually broken into or the first two kill switches are bypassed.
