    Question cutting out/non starting problem

    hey all i have ran a very quick search im just having a slight hickup with my vl i have finished putting it all back together and have had it running for a couple weeks or so and have taken it for one 20km drive after putting a new head on it etc.

    now i have this problem.car starts well drives well but evry now and again car acts like battery is dead flat no dash lights not evan the hint of cranking[usualy after driving it when motor is warm or sometimes first thing in the morning



    car cranks hard [most times ] sometimes battery acts flat pop battery on charge for 20 min and its fine.

    new battery.

    i have spark coming from the coil lead its fairly strong.

    dizzy cap looks relatively new.

    new rotor button.

    new plugs.

    earths are all good.

    new starter motor.

    battery is located in boot ive checked the wrirng from positive in boot to the starter motor its all done properly.

    when i flick the lights on dash lights go very dim.so what i have now done is pulled the fuses for the front lights[see how i go]would this help by doing this?boot light does not stay on and same with glove box light.


    the only other thing i have not yet tryed is alternator

    what gauge is your wire from boot??
    is is a decent size wire man, may be lacking amperage if too thin....
    double check all earth points and have u put a decent earth to motor as well like u were talking about in a previous thread.
    goodluck man, i was gonna say battery but its new :P

    posibly be alternator not charging man

    do a test run car and put a multimeter on battery posts it should read 14.2 volts at idle if u get lower may be alternator power diodes failing thus running all your electrics of battery not alternator while u drive and drain battery

    yeah i have 2 new batterys.

    yeah its heeps thick gauge wiring thicker then normal i think lol.

    yeah checked all earths ran one from motor to body.i also have one from neagtive terminal to solid body to

    yeah need this sorted so it can go off for tune.im bustin to drive it without any hickups its running so quik now with an estimation id be guesing 230ish rwkw seing its running an extra 4 psi

    ok

    car off 12.5 volts
    car on 12.5 volts
    car on lights on 12 volts.

    gregorys manual seys 12.5-14.7 volts mine mite just be on the low side i think.going out now to run a test on alt

    done a test on alternator just under 12.5v with car off and just under 12.5v with car running

    any ideas guys?
