you should replace the diff and trans if upgrading....but somethings you can get away with........i would turbo the six if i was to do anything....it's a lot less work and a bit of personal preference.....

Personally i'd actually go v8. Turbo 6's are just sooo common now, would be nice to have something a little different. That's the exact reason i chose supercharged over turbo, it was more expensive, the power gain was less, but it's different...

Turbo 6 had more power kW from the factory than the V8 (the VL V8 = no good apparently) but I don't know much about the 8.. I'd take the six but that's me.. you could drop a V6 in there just to be different *runs and hides*

A 304 carby VL is not anything special, or even any faster (probably slower) than a V6 VN/VP, A VL turbo on the other hand is a decent bit faster so the choice is pretty clear

    Lightbulb Vl 5l

Drop in a Injected 304 VN Motor --- Tho There is alot of working making it the vl turbo, diff ecu, brakes, loom, manifold etc...

Buy a Vl Calais Turbo it would be cheaper.
    Cheers.

or buy a bolt on supercharger kit, get a fully reco engine. put the 2 together and wack her in. get someone to program the ECU to suit changes and replace what needed. thats what im doing anyway

just to clear a few misconceptions. i understand there are not many V8 VLs out there so i can see why these ideas pop up.

turtles post: youll get more out of a V8 with enough work. you can always go further with a v8. For around the same amount of cash you could do the v8 conversion and pull more balls than that money in a turbo cos looking at an engine with 300thou odd k's its going to benifit from a re-build before strapping a snail to it.

juzza: VL carby V8 pulled more kilowatts from the factory than a factory VLT.

greenfoam: i have never had any trouble sticking to a VN or VP V6 if not leaving it for dead. for a carby engine they have balls. it also makes a mess of stock vlt's.

subdue: seems to be on track with me. go an injection model. they have more go than the carby, stock will blow away a vlt, little work and itll blow away alot of things.

DOnt get me wrong i love a good vlt and no doubt done right with enough spondola would suck the doors off my v8 i just felt there was a need to clear up some of the misconceptions about the v8.

u would need to do a botom end if u want a propper VLT so it will cost dollars for decent pistons which equals out the price factor. etc.

Ive had a VL 5ltr and with a carby and brock spec heads it had plenty of torque, KW sells cars, Torque drives them.

As mentioned above, get an injected 5Ltr and computer, you can buy the supercharger kits which are 4-5 hours to fit i think and some come with the chips and all. The diff will be diff for the V8 but the Vlt is the same isnt it, gearbox will be diff too, auto or manual.

you risk getting banned cutting and pasting pal.
you should have told us at the start you had a tight budget, would have saved me going to all the effort explaining why a V8 would suit your application much better.
i dont know that youll get far strapping a turbo to your n/a with a tight budget, but thats for the turbo boys to explain.

im interested in what other 5ltr V8s you had and why you didnt hold onto them to work up, and even nore interested in the VL with the '5 speed auto'....
just seems like a backwards step to me but hey each to their own

hi i have been looking the is lots of turbos but noy many v8s some one told me that the vl-vs engine monts are all the same so i could drop a vn or a vr V8 + gearbox strate in i found some vr v8+g/b+diff for $2500 is that good ur is that to cheep for any thing good and turbos for $2000 mmm i will deside in 2-3 week

i had a vh 253 (4.2L) and that was tuff sounding my nextdoor naber bought it of me cos the was some thing diff he had been looking for one for yeas he had a old monaro whitch he had been doing it up but had no engine so i sold him mine that was ok cos when he put it in i could see it still he did a good job and the 2nd sold to go on holaday
and the 5spd auto was just the best i got it from the wrecker
it was good u could sit on 130kph and it would bee reving at 1200 it was behind a fully worked 6 non tb best vl. A tip for all VL owners dont sell u will miss it thanks to all for all ur help

rather than say u are on a tight budget, say what the budget is.

I had a VB 4.2 a worked VB 5ltr man, worked VL 5ltr auto and a skyline 6cyl man and the skyline wooped the others. I wanna change my VL to a manual but the reason i supported the V8 was something diff, theyre dying out and everyone has a turbo.

Me personally, i CBF changing everything so i'd just slap on the RB25E head and be done with it, the cops could smoke my joint cause its not ET.

VLACs its in the rules that you can be penalised for cutting pasting the same post inthe same or different sections. since he didnt say anything about it id say it was simply a mistake. it could have been mistaken as ignorance though. harsh but true.

Fred USA, yeah they are a bit hard to follow. upsetting isnt it. no offence to people that cant spell but shite computers do that for you these days! it could be just lazyness. you get better answers to well writtn questions. hence the result of this thread - it has gone nowhere really since the initial message.

back to the question of interest: does anyone know anymore about this 5speed auto to suit VLs that simbad speaks of?

interesting. shit spellers all over this place mate. just give your spellcheck a run and use some full-stops if its a longer post. makes it much more user friendly. goodluck with the build.
