Hey guys as above, do you take off the rocker cover and back off the rocker shaft retaining bolts?? To get the correct belt tension...
I was confused now I'm just not so sure!!
RIP Peter (perfect) Brock....
why would you want to do that for?
if you read the gregorys manual is does not say anything about removing the rocker cover and these bolts you speak of
nah mate no need to do that. i think it says in there if you have pulled the whole lot apart to put the belt back on first then do up them bolts but you dont have to undo them to just do a timing belt.
what book is it from ? one of the green holden ones?? what pg?
trust me mate its not neede ive done 100s of these at work and 3 of my own
yeah thats what i was thinking, when i do mine i just pull the belt off and put a new one on, i dont touch the rocker cover etc
yeah i know that but what part does it say i just had a look
just do the belt mate if anything to get the tention right before you put the belt on turn the crank a little anticlock wise about half a tooth then put the belt on (dont undo tentioner yet) and turn the crank back to its orig spot (line up with the mark) the cam should stay in the same spot but now you have a good tention on that side of the belt and then release the tentioner and it should be a good tention all round, then obviouslt do your 2 revolutions and make sure it all still lines up. hope that made sence. it works for me anyway, on all sorts of cars
I did a couple on my VL many years ago. I do remember that the harmonic balancer had to be removed.
The first timing belt I did was soon after I got the VL. And the second time I did it was when the timing belt had to be removed to replace the water pump.
i have done this at least 7 times and didn't bother with the cam bolts and have not had a problem.
I'm not sure as to why they put that in the gregory's.
Nobody wants to play with me
