    Default Moisture!

Has ne1 stopped the moisture problem, and stopped it from getting in the car/pet? Just want to know the common points of entry for moisture to get in...it's getting in my boot into the carpet and rusting the bottom of the boot, and also under my passenger floor mat, it's always wet when i go to vacuum, so im assuming its always wet.

Rust in the channel where the windscreen is(at the bottom). I had my screen replaced and rust cut out for $500. It can get bad, depending on how long its been there but if you get a hose and hammer the windscreen, you'll find it. Pretty common for VL's

I also heard that the steel surround that the screen is glued to often rusts, letting water in, when my screen was replaced there was some rust but not too bad

    Hi,
Open your bonnet, and have a look under the passenger side hinge.
There is a drain hole there that let the water go down into the mudguard and out.
Just next to this hole is a seam where the water can sit and rust through.
Once this happens, the water gets into the passenger side, and dumps water straight on top of the ECU, and into the carpet. (most ECUs I have seen at the wreckers have been put in plastic bags!). I have some photos somewhere of when I fixed mine. I will post the pics when I find them.
When I checked, the drivers side was nearly through as well.

Have a look, but don't scratch around to much until you are ready to fix it. The rust may be helping to keep the water out.

The other thing I found at the time was the inside of the guard had a heap of wet leaves caught in a good spot to start rust.

    Hope this helps.

Thnx for the tip...i'll have a look into it when i get a chance. Is it recommended to put the ECU into a plastic bag, or just try fix the water prob.

moisture can also just gradually build up. if its not simply water running into the car somewhere itll happen just be sitting in the car breathing. to kill moisture off run the air-con but select the heat setting- this will dry the air out in teh car.

the boot is a bitch. i have seen many cars where water gets in around the screen, also seems to come in aaround the tail lights. the boot seal might be stuffed. even if it looks good. ive seen boots bend the slightest bit from using the remote open button (inteh glovebox) whci stops them sealing properly...

Yeah, I've got the same problem in the boot. There's a slight amount of rust around the rear windscreen area that I've had fixed before but I don't think it's through yet. I open my boot and it looks like Niagra Falls inside. Condensation pours down the bootlid into the runoff channel. The carpet is always wet too and everything is moldy. Sucks.

the main rust spots on all vl's are the front windscreen and the rear windscreen at the bottom they are renowned for it they leak through into the boot and the car

when i got my car first thing i did was go around the sill's in the boot and checked it was as rust free as it could be then i pumped the bottom of the sill with silicone (doesnt stop the rust )just stops the boot from leaking then the front windscreen i took off those plastic mouldings around the windscreen and had a look at how bad the rust was then again siliconed it as good as i could around then glued the mouldings on

and i havent seen any rust come through and its always in the rain but its best to get the rust cut out and properly rustproofed

its a factory mistake with the vl's they are designed to in part catch the water around those area's and the sealing of the windscreens if you get a car where one of the people sealing it went crazy with the sealant your lucky :P love vl's hate the rust

Until you fix the water leaks...I'd be lifting the rubber mat out off your boot floor.
My old VC was rusted thru...I did'nt see any of the rust until one day I decided to clean out the boot..After lifting out the rubber mat....shit no floor..

first thing i noticed when i got my car is the rust under the bootlid seal, water sits there and eventually rusts thru letting water get in. Didint cost much to fix and they redid the chanell so its not flat and water cant sit there. But i was washin it today and noticed a couple of bubbles under the paint at the base of the winshield so i guess il have to throw some money at that too but its all good. Holden cut a couple of corners with the VL as it was only meant as an interim solution while they were developing the VN. These included electrics and rustproofing.

yeah when mine leaked i noticed the boot carpet was all brown and wet lifted it up and in the tire well it had had a previous accident and had blocked off the leak whole thing and had begun to rust the rust actually blocked the holes off so my boot was filling up the well with water when i realised this i hit it with the silicon which stopped the leaking and sorta slowedd the rust and then i just took a sandblaster to the whole boot clearing up the rust and did the well and it put a few little wholes in it gave it a quick paint with the galv paint and then a quick spray of the colour and no more rust or water is coming into the boot
