Just wonding if anybody has turbo'd a standard engine with manual gearbox. How reliable is the gearbox under increased HP? Was there any problems down the track?
I've heard of a few guys running it for a while without any drama's. As long as you take it easy with your changes you should be fine.
A good condition mf5 will be better then a shitty mx7 if you want to look at it that way.
will the mx7 blew within a month of doing a converion, i've heard of ppl running 300hp through a mf5, just take it easy on take off, no 5500rpm and droping the clutch and u should get atleast a year or two out of it, by then u should have saved enough for a R33 or MX7 box.
Never late, in a 30..4 lol![]()
I have a factory turbo vl. It was auto, but the mrs smashed 2nd gear.I put in a 2nd hand auto,2 months later the mrs done the same thing. What is it with 2nd gear? Quotes for a reco auto were upwards of $1800.I ended up buying a standard vl comm with 5-speed.Just a simple matter of swaping boxes. The standard 5-slot has being doing duty now for 12mths.Not a problem.
Having said that;the car is never reved over 6 grand, but not treated gently either.
Not bad when a turbo 5-slot asking price is $2500.Condition unknown.
I figured i could go through 5 standard boxes for the same $.
