could be a number of problems man,

    a short list

battery is totaled time for a new one
earths arent getting a good connection
alternator most likley and change it
doubt its cas if it started when jump starting

but my money is on alternator as when mine died it just cut out like battery was dead, before you change it make sure all wires and the little black plug is conected on rear of unit

and could quite possibly not mean your alternator is dead if the black plug is disconected as thats all mine was

so can you hear the fuel pump whirring when you turn the ignition on? if not check the fuses and relays.
and by the way the rb30 has fuel injection

basically it ran on the fuel left in the fuel rail...
    i would think fuel pumps
internal (inertia) and external (highflow) you should hear the pumps running when ignition is on for about 4-6 sec to prime the system... then when cranking both pumps will turn on and stay on..
if u cannot hear pumps its the pumps...
Fuses and relays first... then check spade connectors and plugs on fuel pumps under car rear near diff then pumps themself.
    Goodluck

the ecu is the computer, its located behind the left kick panel, could be a losse earth or bad earth or possibly loose battery terminal, because i hear from what you are saying is when you turn the key to on you have dash lights. that should be correct. when you turn to start you should only have handbrake light if hanbrake is up.
when you let go of start back to on your dash lights should come back on without turning all the way off and back on again

now if they dont come on from when you go from on to start and back to on again without going all the way off.

my money is on bad earth, or loose battery terminal.

so to check that do the following:

    tighten battery clamps

follow earth wires to body and motor...MAKE sure there clean and not corroded and tight, if not take them off and give a clean with a wire brush, reconnect

at your starter motor, make sure the big fat red wire (postive to battery) is tight on the starter motor.

as to check ecu, pull left hand kick panel off
    turn key to on
on the side of the metal box there(which is the ECU) there will be a hole...you will see a green and red led.....make sure there on and flashing or solid

check plugs at the bottom of ecu and make sure there in there tight etc etc

yep yep was that your neutral switch or ya relay for neutral switch?

if ya need a quick fix for that just put a jump wire from the two purple wires near battery from realy to each other, only thing is you will be able to start it in all gears but ey it works and if you know what gear its in then you would know not to start it lol

you wont need to do this if its turning over with the key when jump starting, try all the other things suggested first and then i will tell you how to do this
