Default Easy way to remove stereo?

    Hey guys,

I'm gonna have a go at installing my brothers stereo tommorow, and I'm told that I have to pull half of the dash apart to get the original head unit out/put the new one in.. is this true? Any tips or advice?

    Cheers!

bloody oath you do, i love it. Unscrew the rear demist and wiper buttons, pull vents out on either side of dash and remove speaker covers from dash. Remove dash and top cover, there is 2 screws right in centre of top of dash that hold in the rear of the stereo. (Few more steps in there you will need) Make sure you put them back in if u like your stereo, i didnt the first time and one night at Riverwood was all she needed. Its 2-3 hours the first time you do it but maybe worth it for securing new deck.

Cheers mate! Yeah we bloody started before you posted that and sure enough we had the whole bottom half of the dash off so in the end there was almost no dash on there! lol if we waited just one more day then we would have known, but it was a lot of learning experience LOL.. and may the factory stereo burn in hell for it's crimes against us

We should make a site with all kinds of tips like this, would be popular as!

u unlucky kid. there is a much easier way of takin out the stock head unit without takin half the dash apart. U have two options. u can contact eurovox and ask them to send u the keyz that slot down the side and pull it how. they cost aabout 10 inc p/h. orr the cheep way is to get a coat hanger and untwist it so that it is a straight peice of wire chop it in the middle and then make a U shape and stick it down the sides and then wait till u hear the click sound and pull it out. i think its much easier then pullin half ur dash aapart lol

Not to mention the Eurovox deck is no more, see we were thinkin' that if we undid those two weird screw things at the top we would be able to pull the deck out, but what happened in the process of this was the top casing went up and being steel and still in there with no way to get it out we had no choice but to pull it through the plastic essentially breaking the bit of plastic just on top of the deck clean off.. not to mention snapping the screw thingy on the side (imagine grabbing the Eurovox deck by the casette hole and where there used to be buttons with a big set of pliers and pulling as hard as is physicly possible), very traumatic experience I have to say and in the future there's no doubt I'll pay a professional to do it

Also wondering, is there a reason the cage for the deck won't fit into the hole now? it'll go in there but warp and stuff, not allowing the deck to easily slide in.. could be the plastics warped form all the pulling we did on it in the battle of Eurovox but I'm not sure

Nah the idea was just like a database of knowledge that we can all contribute to, have it in sections like VB VC VH VK VL VN VP VR etc but not a forum, sort of like a Wiki, I'll look into installin one later on my site

You can just poke some tiewire into the four holes at the sides of the stereo so it pulls out. Some dont have the screws at the back so if you are lucky it will come out easily.

or cut a wire coat hanger so u have 2 pices of wire in the "U" shape (Normal ends of the coat hanger) works perfect in these so called holes in the stereo face

And BTW this thread is 5 years old
