hey guys im andy im new to vl's in gerneral..
i was woundering if any 1 can tell me what there performance is like na non turbo..
im a p plater so i cnt drive turbo and would like to give my n/a some balls..
most of my previous cars have snaped vl's so im in a whole new ball game..
i previously owned a mildly worked 3.0l magna..mildly worked vtec integra and a resonably worked tx5 turbo..i wnt take the chance of driving turbo again its just stupid i found out the hard way.
so how can i get some resonable performance gains..cheers guys
oh and whats the weak spots and good spots about the vl motor
Weak spot = non-turbo
Seriously though. Standard N/A tuning applies here: Intake/Exhaust/Lumpy-arse camshaft
Get all of that, and you'll still get drilled by stock V6 commodores.
n/a vl=better then a vn with an anchor for a motor
any way just do some simple mods such as.
exhaust, extractors, pod filter and leave it at that till you can drive turbo.
5spd helps if you have one.
but once you go turbo you will kill ALL v6's and most v8's so save save save
mate this is the vl section
not boats/anchor thread.
and thats like me seying ill race my stock vl turbo against your stock vs of course ill smash it but your v6's aint that much difrence betwen a stock n/a vl
boats and anchor thread? Funny, i thought the VL and VN shared the same underpinnings. Are you saying that yours is floatable also??
And I have no idea what your saying in that last line.........
Apart from the fact that i don't own a VS
your seying a n/a vl cant beat a stock v6
im seying its the same as me seying my stock vl turbo beats v6's stock or modified.
my point being of course it will it makes more power from the factory that way lol.
and there aint much difrence betwen a stock vl 6 and a stock vn 6
and me refering to vs im meaning vn-vs v6's
Nissan RB30E 3.0L Straight Six

3800 V6

Maximum torque: 292 Nm @ 3200 rpm
Yeah not much, but the VN wins. It'd probably give that turbo a fair run too.
^ how much does a Vl and Vn weigh?
Thier both boats so there couldn't be that much in it? VN exec weighs around 1300? flat?
now theres 11rwkw difrence between n/a vl and v6.
and then theres 25-30kw difrence betwen turbo 3.0 and v6 and now your seying v6's would give a turbo a fair run?sorry mate i have to lol at that.a v6 can barely keep in front of a n/a now they can give turbos a fair run
lol
what do vls weigh something in the 1100kg range?
TBH ive driven N/A vls, vrs, vs's, and a vy.... theres not much difference between them they are all slow as dogs balls. I didnt find the VL to be slower then any v6's i have driven... The v6s just have more torque. Why compare dog shit to dog shit? The V6 is a hunk of junk as is the rb30 N.A
Now to your question
*Head ported and get the head shaved to bump up the compression
*5 speed manual
*extractors and 2.5" zorst
*Cai
With that setup it should go pretty good...
And once your off your P's wack a turbo on it and say bye bye to all V6's and most v8s
Now to the dumb asses
* My VL with stock 1.5" exhaust, stock boost 6psi, stock t3 turbo made 139rwkw. A vn-vx V6 would be lucky to be over 110rwkw. Comparing a stock V6 to a stock VL turbo is stupidity.

1987 VL SL turbo 5 speed ~STOLEN~

exactly my point.
comparing a n/a vlto a v6 witch makes more power and more tourqe and bigger cubes is stupid.
now you will prob see my point lol
i tell ya b4 i put the turbo on
I smashed the vn-vr-vs-vp HECK toyota Lexen stockos while i had minimal mods, 2.5 exhaust/extractors/CAI in a shitty Auto as well.
my mate got a vr-wagon(bit heavier) and the L smashed it every drag we did,,, it was preety funny...
with these basic mods it puts the N/A to about 120kw from 114
and the v6 is 800 bigger, and funny caus the v6 sounds shit.. thats my 2c
Bah Funny
Must all come down to drivers than.
I've beaten the same vlt 5 or 6 times down the strip
Every other vl i try to run is broken.............comes with the territory.
must be a pos mate
ive got it.it must be a n/a with a turbo badge on the back
Simple answer to your question, 2.5" exhaust, hi flow cat, Cold Air Intake(piping through airbox to front bar), headwork and a cam.

Smart arse. It a turbo. Just a pos.
I've owned na vl's, my VR is 100% no word of a lie faster than them, and the pos turbo.
Im sure there are na vl's out there that are faster than your average v6, but im yet to see one.
Hell, I haven't seen a decent running VL in..........................god must be years now!
My manual N/A vl wagon used to cain vn and vp v6, and all it had was an exhaust.
Yes there are alot of shit na vls and even shit vn's and vp's out there, it all comes down to the condition of it, even turbo vl's if standard and mistreated will be slow.
