iv just purchist a k&n panel filter and i wont to get some cold air in to the air box i now i need to get a 90 degree pipe and i have to drill a holl in the bottom of the box but im a bit stuck with how big do i get the pipe and were do i run it to any tips fellas :b:
Not sure about where you can run it, but when you do it, make sure you have an extra bend and a drainage hole. Last thing you want is water to get past the filter.

Hey man i did mine with 3" pipe run it down put a 90 degree forward then run it to just behind the front bumper zip tie it to the bumper.

i did that but with 2 45 degree joins. its better with that cos theres less distance to travell and less sharp corners to obstruct flow. theres threads about how to do this btw. look through old threads

the pipe i used was 90mm. i took the box out and cut through the metal below it. then i cut through the plastic box. the i stuffed the pipe through and siliconed it all up. zip tie to the strut thingy above the where the pipe went. remember to paint the metal with something to stop rust after you cut it. i forgot that.
oh and make sure you line the two holes up right. i didnt do that either. but with enuf silicon any hole can be fixed up

looks good mate. i think perhaps it needs a small hole or slit across the elbow to let water pass through if you cop a good puddle or follow a car closely on a wet day....
how big are we talkin. like a cm or smaller or like a line cutting the whole of the bottom of the pipe. the line would probably be the best one.
not that much water would get in though would it?? the intake is in front of the tyre so anythign that doe get flick up byt the tyre would go behind. i think

I was gonna go through with doing the CAI, found my airbox so i can piss the pod off. But the only thing that has got me worried is if it would pass roadworthy having a hole cut through the chasis. I bought my VL off my brother 2 years ago and its still registered under his name and to get it changed over needs to go through roadworthy. Just wanna no if its allowd.
its not really alowed as such. but if you paint it black and make it neet noones really gonna notice. unless you get a tosser of a cop who checks it. but oh well. whats the worst that could happen. you have to weld it back up and fix up the air box hole. i didnt seal my snorkal hole for that very chance.

thanks for that fellas gonna hav to giv it a go this sat bit woried about that holl water gettin in to da air fillta its been chukin it down here in sa where do i put the water drainig hole in the box or in the pipe how big
think about the inertia of the water. the water is going to try and race up the back of the pipe so logically the back of the pipe just at the sharpest part of the corner or a bit before is the best spot.

yeah that sounds about right mate obviousely youll lose a tiny bit of air but if there it water there the water being heavier will take the lower path out the hole. as far as a hole i reckon no bigger than 1cm in diameter would suffice. a slit (maybe even 2 spaced apart a little...) would work well too. just across the outside of teh elbow midway through the bend should work nicely.
For it to be roadworthy youd be hard pushed to get caught out. cops wont check, just make sure the pipe near the front is hard to see. generally they dont go as far as bending down for a look under the car. they may however hear the air sucking and pull you up, then they would have a close look or even ask you to open the airbox
(ive seen tehm do this.)
they might then either ask you to remove it and replace the box then have it checked (i know here in vic it would be a matter of dirving into vicroads, they look, see a new airbox and dont see the hole in the chassis under it so youd pass)
or they tell you it needs to be repaired and engineered. this owuld be badluck cos you would have to have it welded up properly, as well as replace the airbox, then have an engineers report done on it (tune of over $300 in alot of cases). this could also happen if you sell the car or have to have a full roadworthy done on it. this means they willpick up other things that may need to be done (eg oil leaks, loose bearings, rubbers, exhaust, brakes... anything.)
