    Default Manual gearbox overhaul.

My son has a VL i6 manual that has noisy bearings. the car was originally an Auto, my question is, as the turbo bearing kit is different to the std box kit, is there a way I can tell which one is in the car?
Also is there anyone that has done an overhaul that can point out any tricks and traps.
    Cheers

i know the torbo box(mx7) is much larger than the N/A box(MF5), mx7 runs a 10 inch flywheel with the starter teeth recest into the flywheel, while the mf5 runs a 9.5 in fly and the starter teeth are extended out of the fly around the edge. the MF5 will not run a MX7 fly but will the other way around. thats the only way i think of telling them apart except one is bigger than the other, not sure how much. i've got a turbo with the mx7, so it's all i've seen. the two rebuild kits arn't interchangable i've been told.
Never late, in a 30..4 lol

i dont know for sure but maybe the input, lay and output shafts are different diameters, necessitating in the different bearings...?

asked the same question when i was converting.According to the part no,s in the kit, nothing is the same between the ET & std. There are two overhaul kits for the std box,the dearer one is a more comprehensive kit, needle rollers ect.Unfortunately without x ray eyes, you wont know how much damage there is until you pull it down. I seriously doubt its a turbo box.

Thanks everone, I have ordered the std short kit, I won't know until I remove it what is wrong. I am also thinking (hopeing) its not the Turbo one. Are parts still available for it from Holden?

Gearbox turns out to be a non turbo so the kit was correct. The clutch was worn to the rivits, but the box looked good, infact looks like a recent overhaul had been done. As I had the kit anyway I replaced the bearings again. All bearings were in good condition when removed. The only problem found in the overhaul was the input shaft bearing had been spinning on the shaft! It looks like the wrong bearing was in place as the part number was different on the new one. I locktite'd the bearing to the shaft and hope it is OK.
