hey guys. ok so i have a N/A vl. im looking to do some work. ive seen on some links from here cam/extractor upgrades + chip. id need a better comp and ill be doing the exhaust to.
i just have looked up a coupple of computers on ebay and looking to see if these are ok. they are:
Haltech IG5 ECU $200
Haltech F9A ECU $250
is there any real difference?? what do you reccomend. also i dont have deep pockets e.g1k to spend on a comp. at this stage anyway haha
Dont want to burst your bubble but for the record, your never going to pull any decent power from the n/a motor no matter how much you spend on the computer and top end...
yeh i know looking for little increase. prob from 90kw stock to like 120kw would be good.
exhaust, extractors, cam would be the better bet or use all that coin for a turbo conversion
haha i would. im 16. get my P's in two weeks and turbo isnt a option. damn laws.
dont bother, you realllly dont need an aftermarket computer dont expect any gains
what to do is save heaps of dollars why ya on ya p's.....Get a cheap A6 or find an A8 and build it up for street with a turbo and when ya off ya p's through it in and you be sideways up the road with a slight touch of the pedal FTW!
hahah.i want to keep this for now. when im off my P's put a v8 in it.
get a nistune setup for your stock ECU
that will allow you to tune the motor for best performance each time you do a different modification.
and then, after you've spent lots of money for minimal gain the N/A route - you can still use Nistune to tune for a decent turbo setup![]()
thanks mate. ill look em up. ill probably be doing everything at once. ill buy all the bits and peices and then get someone like tweakit or soemthing to fit it all. right now im just seeing from past experience what sort of power im looking to get. id want atleast 30kw for the stuff im getting...
dont worry bout any ecu up grades at the moment its a waist of money.
cam head and exhaust will get you going but barely worth it
theres a site. i think crow cam. i tried last night but it didnt load. stage 3 cam stage 4 chip or something and extractors. it was like $800 or something. id be looking to do that and 3" exhaust. al the way through.
is this a good idea? also should i change my cat? anything better that will get a little amount of power ?
sorry guys. i just looked it up again. i was wrong.
ill most likley be getting this :
Mild Performance Camshaft for Standard Engine
Reprofiled Camshaft delivers improved Low & Mid Range Torque and Increased Effiencey in otherwise Standard engine.
Approx RPM Range 1200-4200 Full Camshaft Specs and Set Up Data will be provided with the Camshaft
$255
extractors if i get from this site $450
whats the best brand. as ebay will probably be the best option.the chip ill forget about for now. ill just go to nistune with my current one.and exhaust they can do it all im sure. ill make my own air intake.
pacemakers are good.
buy second hand ones.
was your car manual or auto?
in my opinion 3 inch is to big for a n/a but a 2 1/2 is fine
RB30's love 3" and extractors
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
yeah takes 2 minutes for them to work well lol and by then the 2.5inch exhaust vl has gone
you may aswell call it lag lol haha
at WOT a 3" is fine you only loose torque in the low throttle cruise area and a bare minimal amount youll go even faster with the exhaust off at the end of the extractors at full throttle
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
haha yeh. pacemakers it will be. its also an auto :| ive found some high performance cats.
3" Hi-Flow VENOM Metal Cat XR6 FPV VL Turbo Skyline - eBay Cat Converters, Exhausts, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 27-Mar-10 19:46:01 AEDST)
that to be exact. will this make any difference ?
also i wont be converting to manual. just to answer the following questions haha. well for atleast a year. Auto P's
so 2.5 or 3" is better. i saw 3" would be the best option. based on someones opinion. but yeh id be looking on down low power not high end power.
and not to mention a 3inch on a n/a car sounds like a big turd lol
oh by the way if you have an auto you may aswell buy a stall if your going to cam it.
what state are you from?im assuming vic with an auto liscence?
im from NSW. its not the sound i dont care if it sounds like crap but ill go 2.5 if it gives me bottom end. why do i need a stall for ? you mean stall converter or whatever right ?
Lol. Because a cam is gonna make the car undrivable on the stock converter........
Just wait would be my advice.
Yes your a P-plater and you wanna have POWER, problem is you bought an N/A VL.
Its never, ever going to make decent power.
If you wait 4 years, and save your money over those 4years - the VL you come out of it with will be far, far better than spending on it now.
But if you still want to go ahead than:
Extractors
2.5" Exhaust
CAI / re-vised airbox
Camshaft (I hear the R31 GTS one is the go for a mild N/A VL)
and the rest (service etc.)
exactly what you said is all im doing. i know its little power but its something for now... im not in a hurry and i have some money to spend.
just go the usual.....
CAI,
Good set of leads and plugs....
Extractors with 2.5" exhaust right through...
Good tune
Dont bother about cam and ecu till u turb it
keep maintenance up on her..
manual
and save until u can slap a turbs on it.
Stocko is 114Kw ATFW with a few minor mods she got 120kw which is fine for a P-plater
