Unhappy 86 VL SL died after new battery... ideas?

Hey guys, i brought a new battery the vl after it had been sitting a few weeks with a dicky old one. Once i installed in i went to start her up, i disarmed the immobilizer and turned it half way so u could hear the buzzzzzzzz from the fuel pump is it? and it also made a few bubbling noises similar to the noise of coolant boiling when the cap is loosened... but it was cold. Then i went to turn the key all the way and it made a one off click kind of like a electrical zzzt which appeared to come from under the steering wheel and now its completely dead. The immobilizer doesnt flash, the lights are obviously not working and the hazards aswell. i thought fuse but i cant find a blown fuse anywhere...

    any ideas? im lost...
    thankyou, Tim

Have you checked the fusible link. If you have a dead short you may have blown the fusible link which is a wire supplying the main power. Not sure where the fusible link is as I don't have a VL but if you have a manual you should find it on the wiring diagram. Could be on the power wire from the battery, not the main cable.

thanks for your ideas guys. turned out it was simply old dodgy battery terminals!!! ( those bits that clamp on to the battery) replaced those and it fired up first go.... something to consider if it happens to anyone else. =D saved me alot of time

sounds like a short or something at the starter motor
or the solenoid on the starter motor.... i would think this had caused it to blow the main ignition fuse as well,,,so check this is fuse box
check as stated above with battery and i would inspect starter motor.
make sure the terminals are tight on the statrter motor
    goodluck man
