Hi I have two VLs - I want to put all the good parts onto one. I want to keep the original motor and chasis numbers matching.
So is there any stamped VIN number on the chasis?????????? I can transfer the alumium plates to go? For example the old EH 350CheV I had 5 years ago - there was a stamped number in the chasis which would be a real bumper going to the nats and being pulled over. The alum plates use to come off - I even had plastic push-ins so that I didn't have to rivet the tag on.
Nothing sus about this question I own both cars - I am just sick of the rust in one with the good mechanicals and sick of the bad mechanicals in the one with the better body.
That is against the law, im pretty sure in every state and youll be screwed bigtime getting caught doing this.
what state are you in?
Is the car with the bad mechanicals registered? If it is all you need to do is put the good gear in it then head down to your rta (vicroads etc) and have them change the numbers on their system. when you write off a car its the body numbers that are written off, so teh engine etc can be used in another car. the body cant be.
so if your good body is not registered youll have to get the car roadworthy and registered. explain the engine is from another car which you can prove ownership of (as i assume the other car is still registered in your name) you can put the same plates on the good bodied car but it would require a transfer of rego and a few fees and documents here and there.
all in all you cant do what you would liek to do. if you swap the motor over you cant swap the chassis number because its A DIFFERENT CHASSIS!!!
youll just have to swap it over and get the other car registered. done properly your number will match up in the rta system and youll never have a problem.
Yes - I think the key is that tags can't go on a newer body. Tags belong to the chasis. The trick is like you say - Engines can be changed and rta notified.
Thanks for your feedback
cheers goodluck with that mate
