Hi,
I have a VL 5 Speed Manual 6cyl running only on petrol. The last 4 months I have been having a problem when the engine is warm it will either idle very rough or stall at the lights or stopped in traffic. If I manage to keep it idling when I take off and change from 1st to 2nd it also looses all power (does not stall if I pump the accelerator). I have taken it to a mechanic and it's had it's head, radiator, leads, plugs and crank angle sensor replaced and the MAF meter and fuel pump have been checked out, there also seems to be a fair bit of black smoke coming out of the exhaust latley at idle, it leaves black carbon like stuff on anything that is parked behind the car, not sure if this is related. When the engine is cold it runs just fine. My mechanic is running our of ideas and would love to hear any fresh ideas from everyone here. Thank you in advance.
Kirsty.
Check your ECT sensor ( engine coolant temp ) fine when cold but once warm the sensor reading is still cold even after running for 30 minutes ECM thinks engine is still cold and runs in rich mode , common problem for VL 6cyl
thats what i rekon as well ECT sensor
as well could be O2 Sensor.
