Im looking at purchasing a VL SL, for $1600, and i spoke to the bloke and he's told me evert since he posted it online, its started jolting when he's driving?
Is this a major problem or a simple spark plug etc? Is it worth the 1600 ?
Inputs people ?![]()
Cheers.
depends,,,,,
i would say the AFM is failing.. but could be a number of things....
price depends on Kms, Rust, Overall condition, Paint Condition, Engine, Trans conditions etc etc...
get some pics up and let us have a look....
could knock him down to like 1200 or 1k
He's having a mechanic look at it on Friday, how much would it be to fix the AFM do you reckon if it was that...
Paint is fine, its only had one minor bump on the front guard, which he replaced the whole thing, someone tapped him in a carpark, ill put up some pictures when i figure out how to haha
Cheers mate.
here is the link to the car nath.

Feedback would be very appreciated![]()
Sorry to post again haha, he told me its just mis-firing... by that does it mean the pistons have something wrong or what ?
most propably plugs and leads.
Looks clean and ok for the price aslong as there is nothing major wrong with the car and no rust, AFM prices vary i picked mine up for like 30 bucks
misfire could be like Bow-down has stated above Leads and plugs... well thats the first things to check ... then dizzy cup terminals(take it off and inspect inside the cup... look for pitting or white powder and examine the terminals, as well as rotor arm contact and light sand like 3 strokes over it to freshen it up) replace if necessary both cup and rotor,,,,
as for car looks clean and still has original radio(tipping old fella yeah??)... need some more pics like engine bay and rust progress etc etc...
would be a nice project though....
missfire etc and hunting or sluggish/flat spots is not a major issue.. and of course we are here to help...
all the best in your choices

use a magnet to check for plastic rust repairs around windscreen, proper repairs with metal can be expensive
I owned a VL once, and 2 things popped in my head that happened to me with that 'jolting' and surging:
1. Air intake leak, between the air flow sensor and the throttle body, causes all kinds of craziness.. lol
2. The other was a bad fuel pump, the 'high flow' one in the tank, since at this age they are overdue to die, if it is still the original.
Fuel delivery from the 'high flow' in-tank pump, to the external 'high pressure' pump drops, and can't keep the fuel feed up to it.
So fuel pressure up to the fuel rail gets low, and cant keep the pressure up to all of the injectors, which 'need' high pressure to operate correctly.
This can cause that 'surging' and 'jolting' too.
Of course, a blocked fuel filter can also have a similar effect.
But, like you said, it's being looked at by a mech, but just thought I'd leave this with ya.![]()
an A9Q dealer pack from may 1988 would like to see the rest of the compliance plates to get the option codes and see what extras you are getting in this limited edition.
looks pretty clean and straight and would be an easy turbo too.
Nobody wants to play with me
hmmmmmm whats that Jatsvl you feeling alright???
