Any one with a answer
Washed the engine bay today on my sons VL berlina 6 cylinder now it has become hard to start and keep running once started it ok. After 15 - 20 mins later it stops try starting it again takes some time to start after 15 mins it stops again and so on runs like a charm when running. didnt do this before i washed it never mist a beat
does it stop at idle?...take her for a good drive at speed.....if it still happens replace the coil
Yep does that drops out at idle and done the other droped out at 110 on the hume hwy had to be towed home. I will have to wait for daylight and go and scrounge some from the pick a part or the speed shop.
its probably water in the electrics, remove dizzy head, theres supposed to be a gasket under it thats usually missing and see if its wet, also spray WD40 on electrics
If water got onto the crank angle sensor would this cause the cutting out after 15 - 20 mins i have washed hundreds of engine in cars and never had this before.

yes! also pull the rubber boot back on the cas plug on the top of the dissy and give it a good spray.
I have had this problem with my vl's, now when washing the engine I spray the dissy before I cover it with a bag then wash the engine then spray it again.
Nobody wants to play with me
same as what jatsvl said i always cover my dizzy's with plastic bags
No go played with the car all day its dead changed the coil sprayed CRC in every connection opened the dizzy took the rotor and back plate sprayed in there checked the button in the cap put it back together pulled all the spark lead off sprayed in them to tested every connection with multimeter power everywhere also put the timming light on no spark checked again checked every thing i could check still no spark even changed the electronic component on the side of the dizzy still nothing the only thing i couldent do was change was the CAS as i could not get one ( also change the starter because it craped it self )
something i missed maybe any ideas anybody
all over and engine wash

Crank angle sensor is in the dizzy man
you would have got water in there....
this has been covered many times as well so have a search there are other remedies.
wait untill it dries out or pull apart your CAS and dry it...
go over your electrics with INOX rather than wd40 as INOX is waterproof and spray them all as well as in the back of the plugs(pull back rubber boot).
once it had dried out you will be sweet.
Check fuses that none have blown due to a short.
Goodluck
hmm FUSES?

No Not Hmm fuses that another story !!
I just brought a new CAS on ebay ill wait for that and see what happens
In the mean time where do you get INOX from we live in Vic. just thinking can INOX be brought from a marine shop

How do you appropriately wash your engine bay?
Right Fitted new CAS car starts but cant rev it runs very badly
Is their something else that water will effect and cause bad running? I am at a loss i dont know where else to look
All over an engine wash
SPEED COSTS MONEY: HOW FAST DO YOU WANT TO GO?
well sounds like AFM is playing up if u cant rev it and it just dies...
could be a number of things and a coincidence not from the wash itself..
could be a failing fuel pump well one of them intank pump (inertia) or highflow pump,
JATSVL Fuses as in water got in somewhere and shorted out a circuit and has blown a fuse as in for like fuel pumps or Ignition ETC ETC got me bloke :P
just a thought, check the air piping is all good and tight, often leads to the afm playing up. probably not the problem, but good to check it and afm wiring.
Need some parts for my VH 253:
Green standard steering wheel...Green lower B-pillar covers.
Green sunglasses holder/lower dash bits...Air-con and assorted engine bay parts.
PM with any info.
id be stripping the dizy down and cleaning it all out spraying it with wd40.
also all electrical contections could have water/moisture in them same deal spray them out.
rb30's are pretty simple, just keep cleaning shit untill you get a result, either that or go to a wrecking yard and "resource" various sensors and start trying them
check the air intake/ air filter to see if you got any water in there... my mate drove through a puddle at high speed and had similar problems coz the water got into the air intake.
Well after all that finally got it going just kept at it used 2 tins CRC sprayed every thing 3 – 4 times over pulled every plug and connection apart 10 times over sprayed and kleened them all now it runs good took it for a big drive every things good.
Cost 1 starter 1 CAS a lot verbal morality you know how it goes
Initially this engine and bay wash started as a radiator change
Anyway thanks for all the input guys it all helped
