i recently bought a vl when i registerd it queensland transport told me that the motor had been changed a mate told me that he thinks its an rb30 is there a way to tell if its a rb20 or rb30?
RB30 in a VL:

Nissan RB20:

Look on the side of the block, they are cast as RB30 or RB20 on side.
RB20 is a single cam motor, it would be RB20DE (E for Electronic injection), D for twin cam (DOHC).
Link posted above is RB20DET (turbo).
Your talkin to me all wrong, it's the wrong tone. Do it again and I'll stab you in the face with a soldering iron.
its an easy pick between the two.on the 2ltr you will notice there are no plugs on the sid of head and on the rb30 you will see leads going to the plugs plus the rb20 seys rb20 on the top of timing cover from memory?
are they telling you the motor had been changed because the engine number does not match the rego, has somebody replaced a blown rb30 with an rb30 and not informed qld transport? this can cause a problem.
Nobody wants to play with me
If its a single cam its an RB30.
Except for the fact that there are also RB20 engines, which are single cam, just as there are RB30 engines, which are twin cam.
I didn't know all this either, until it was pointed out to me above, and I did some research.. lol
