A Vl workshop manual is a better start than a pre 1070's holden. (having had a 350chev EH, I look forward to working with intel on the VL and have used it to bring my handy work into the 1980s).
In brief position A on the computer with engine at 2000rpm checks mixture, temperature and oxygen sensor. With the engine off, ignition on, the light sequence tells you about any self diagnostic faults.

The manual is detailed and it took me 4 weeks from reading it, until I realised that the answers where in the manual.

Some of the blokes here are great they have all the specs on what output the sensors should read. I used it to diagnose a oxygen sensor.

If I got in early with the workshop manual and watched I would be about 500 bucks happier

Yes - this is the part that pissed me off - all the codes came up and appeared in order but I thought - what does it mean.

I'm using a Max Ellery repair manual.

I am good for checking that the feedback loop works (o2, temp) - both red and green flash at the same time with engine on 2000rpm and computer screw on postion A (anticlockwise).

How to get the codes out of the smart computer is something I will work out before I'm done.

Found this on a thread: -

    G'day Matt

Yes the manual ECU will still run your car, so it won't hurt trying it out. Those codes are normal.....

Code 14 is your speed sensor circuit, cancel that out by driving the vehicle at speed greater than 10kph

23 is your TPS, cancel it by switching the car off then back to the on position and fully depress then release the throttle.

24 is the neutral switch on your auto, move it down to first then back up to neutral to cancel this

31 is a system pass for a non airconditioned VL, yours has A/C so it's a a/c circuit, just switch your a/c on then off to cancel.

After this you 'should' be left with a code 44, which is system pass for an air conditioned VL.

My only idea is the CAS, as you'll still have spark on a RB30 but not evenly at all cylinders. All depends on how well RACQ diagonosed the prob. Might also be a faulty TPS but that shouldn't prevent it from starting all together. Same goes with fuel, it would have to be literally getting nothing for it not to at least fire then splutter and die.

    Cheers and g'luck

    Jake

    Default ecu

i have a feeling my ecu is up the creek?

the lights flash very differnt all the time when on diagnostic mode, the green will flash 4 times, then the red twice, then the green 3 times, the red once, and be more n less all over the place... i've noticed the car hasnt been running very well of late, i think that might have something to do with it?

then again i didnt check to see if i was exactly on 2000rpm as i was checking.
the max elleries book i dnt quite understand, does ur car have to be in nutreul when on diagnostic mode?
