Hey guys
Wondering if anyone could help, just bought an 86 VL commy, Had it running while i had the hood up and it was running perfect, then the engine just stopped out of nowhere and hasnt started since. Fuel pump works fine, and i have checked all relays and fuses and they are all fine as well. Has spark, It will wind over but just wont fire.
Plase help Thanks
Got petrol? if battery hasn't got enough charge it won't start. an engine needs 3 things to start: air, fuel and spark
how strong is the spark? check all connections
Yer Mate, has about $15 petrol in it, Air is fine, and has excellent spark, the guy i bought it off yesterday ran it completely outta fuel, and from reading a few other forums it looks like it might be it, took a few hours to get it going yesterday. once it was going it was running perfect until today when it just conked out.
If he ran it dry then its could have sucked up a bit of crap inside the tank meaning the fuel filter could be blocked.
soo was just out stuffing around with it me vl an decided to check spark again... NO SPARK pulled leads off an wound the car over an theres no spark at all..... cleaned all connections pulled the cap off cleaned all that an the dizzy...... still no spark so what would be next?? CAS??? ignition coil???? car was running fine yesty then just stopped like someone turned the key off ..
yeah mate battery is new car just wines an wines over just wont fire cause of no spark at all theres nothing there dead as a door nail....
pull your passenger side kick panel off, turn the key on and see if the leds on the ecu are flashing if not, then your not getting power to the ecu. if they are flashing could possibly be your CAS
Try wriggling the wires at the plug that goes into the CAS They have been known to break the wires and will sometimes start if you wriggle them. You can buy new plugs to solder your wires into if this is the problem.
so i done as you's have said pull side kick panel off LED working an tried wriggling the plug that plugs on the CAS nothting happened didnt fire up just wound over an over
You have fuel pump yeah?
If so your CAS has shit itself
either try another dizzy if you have one laying around or just put a NEW CAS in
yeah fuel pump kicks in an have fuel... ill change the CAS an let ya's no how i went 9 times out 10 it is the CAS goin off everyone on this forum that has had trouble with spark.... this is a good site thanks for all ya suggestions fellers ..
yeah no probs mate, i have oqned about 12 vl's all up so im pretty cluey when it comes to problems with them lol
yeah feedback would be good mate when ya change it
lol no worries mate changin it monday or tuesday will let ya's no
sounds like CAS or the plug itself,,,, pull back rubber boot on the CAS plug and check the back of the spade connectors. sometimes corrodes in there and snap off... as well as put some INOX/WD40 in the plug as well
neck up u Cu*t your a parrot......fkn blowfly......
so went an got a price for the CAS $155 ..... thought i'd check on ebay an found them on there with 12months warranty for $78 think i no which one ill be buying car might be off the road a lil longer but dont think that will bother me lol... will let ya's no how the vl goes once it gets here an i've wacked it in..
I have one you can buy for 50 plus 10 postage mate...
thanks for the offer nackerz but i've already bought the one off ebay should be here friday or next monday..
was out at the wreckers here in broken hill an found a VL Wagon 5 speed manual with 81thou k's on the clock.. i asked about it it belonged to an old guy that died so the wreckers bought it an sat it out the back.. couldn't believe it not many around with km's like that on it..
check my sig if u need a how to on changing the CAS....
hope this is the cause of your probs they are temperemental bloody things, moisture/dirt/ etc does not take much to wreck them as they are LED sensors
thx for that detox yeah i no how to change them have already pulled it apart an had a look at it when i pulled the cap off the was a fair bit of crap in it ... she's all cleaned up an covered up waiting for the new one.. hope this is the problem.
