hi, I have a VL berlina 5L v8![]()
Im picking up an old vb that has a stroked 308 under it
now all i need is 1 LSD diff & 1 5speed gearbox
any ideas were to get decent ones from?? no wreckers have v8 vls here![]()
I live in nsw (in teh country)
I dont see how it would make it unregisterable as it has a v8 in it now...
cant seem to find anything on ebay...

dunno bout your state but you are only allowed to put an engine of the same or newer because anything built after 1986 has to comply with the newer emissions standards. i would have thought this would be more of an Australia wide think. youll get away with it as long as you arent pulled over, arent EPA'd, dont sell the car, dont get reported, and dont want insurance.
reasonable price for that box. does the engine you are bolting it up to have a turbo pattern though?
youd get a supra 5 speed for the same price though and thats really what you want.
youll hard pushed to find 5ltr VLs. they werent so popular because the power gains were only slight over the turbo for the same model (plus old carby was sucky). even harder to find a 5 speed as i think only a hadful of vl v8s had them (they were like the 5 important people for holden and were in wagons.)
this is without considering the group A's which were injected and some had 5 speeds. parts for these are like finding light up my arse.
i have a v8 lsd but unfortunatly i live in vic......
the red motor from the vb has the same stuff on it.. epa and fuel crap.. just not connected..ill connect it up when its in muh vl bay..
the supra 5 speed does that come with a bellhousing??
how much do lsd diff cost?
Ill have to check the bolt patten when the motor comes out..
youll know what bolt pattern it is while its in there by what box is on it at the moment. if its the standard vl v8 itll have a 3 speed trimatic box. hence a trimatic patten which means a conversion to a t350 (turbo pattern) isnt a direct bolt up. would have to be converted and im not sure if the tailshaft is the same length either. i dont know about the supra box. either way both are done all the time so it cant be a massive job....
ebay really is a good place to get an idea of what parts are worth. its not often you wont find what your after on there. i know a wrecker that checks ebay for the going rate of soemthing then adds a bit when its a part he doesnt have very often....

They have lots of mini spools .. but i dont want one :| I can use a welder if thats needed lol!

really? mines been trying to talk me into it. shes done my back before and it was ok. is it the actually process that hurts or is the regrowth nasty and painful?
i got a great bargen from my mate, for $600 i got 1 vb shell, red 308 (been stroked to 355), T350 box, and a lsd diff, cant wait i grabed a oil cooler of ebay yesterday so ill be going for a driver on the weekend, ill let you know how it goes
the carby thats on the red 308 (roc 600 carby) doesnt have the pollution gear, but the one on my vl does (304, with roc 650 carby) and its simple to change over :P
youll still get screwed over for using an older engine that the original. does the old engine run unleaded?
yea the vb stroker is unleaded.. the carby is the only thing ill have to change
the RTA said just have to provide the engine number and its all sweet :P

Got a hks oil cooler on the way, ill get to driver the stroker for a bit on the farm.. rofl ill have fun!
