Hi Guys
My sons VL has an short in the loom causing two fuses to blow the fuse for the clock interior light and hazards fuse 9 and the other fuse for the high beam fuse 2 I know this is an dead short as this only blows the fuses when you flick the high beam on this also causes the switching relay to die not the supply relay I have disconnected the lights from the loom I have pulled all the relays I have change the light switch stick I have also disconnected every other plug in the loom to see if it still blows and it does when the light are flicked to high beam I also know if I put the multimeter on the non live side of fuse 9 with the fuse removed and the body I will get continuity so I am wondering if anyone knows which part of the loom rubs through and shorts to the body or the earth within the loom with so many orange wires it is hard to trace without striping the loom from the car and picking it to peaces.
Is there any one place in the loom that rubs over time and causes this?

Try pulling out the instrument cluster and check the printed circuit on the back. It could have melted and caused a short. The only reason i think it might be where to look is because the high beam warning light and clock are both powered through the printed circuit on the back of the instrument cluster. Its a fairly easy job to get the instrument cluster out.
Thanks I'll will have a look on the weekend

Well its all fine now as suggested I removed the instrument cluster and it was fine nothing wrong here but what I did notice was a build up of dust and dirt across the circuit board tracks I gave that a clean up and put it back I also changed the fuses to circuit breaker type fuses the type that you plug in to the standard fuse block and now its all good the only problem now is the fuse box lid don’t sit all the way down
Any way the circuit breakers I used are Narva auto reset circuit breaker part no 55615 & 55620 the last two digits represent the amps these circuit breakers are taller than fuses so keep in mind the fuse box lid don’t sit properly
they cost about $6.50 each
